The Fountain Group is a national staffing firm and we are currently seeking a ­­­­­­­­Robotics Project Engineer / Program Manager for a prominent client of ours.  This position is REMOTE with Travel. Details for the position are as follows:

Robotics Project Engineer / Program Manager

Location: Remote – United States
Pay Rate: $110–$118/hour
Travel: Travel required to multiple U.S. sites, including Puerto Rico

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Robotics Project Engineer / Program Manager to support the planning, development, and deployment of robotics and automation solutions across multiple U.S. sites. This position will work closely with site teams, engineering groups, business stakeholders, and external vendors to identify automation opportunities and translate operational needs into effective robotics solutions.

The ideal candidate brings a strong background in robotics engineering, applications engineering, sales engineering, or automation, with hands-on experience deploying robotics within manufacturing, logistics, laboratory, or other complex operational environments. Experience supporting highly regulated industries such as pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or medical device manufacturing is highly preferred.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the planning, implementation, and delivery of robotics projects across multiple U.S. sites, including Puerto Rico.
  • Partner with cross-functional site teams to define project scope, technical requirements, objectives, deliverables, and success criteria.
  • Evaluate operational processes and identify opportunities where robotics and automation can improve productivity, efficiency, safety, and overall performance.
  • Translate business and operational requirements into practical robotics and automated solutions.
  • Provide hands-on technical leadership throughout the project lifecycle, including requirements gathering, solution development, implementation, and troubleshooting.
  • Lead and oversee small-scale proof-of-concept (PoC) projects and pilot new robotics technologies within manufacturing, logistics, and laboratory environments.
  • Support the deployment and integration of robotics platforms such as KUKA, FANUC, ABB, Universal Robots (UR), MiR, OTTO, or similar technologies.
  • Build strong relationships with site teams, technical stakeholders, business partners, and external vendors to anticipate challenges and resolve project roadblocks.
  • Manage robotics vendors, systems integrators, and other third parties, including vendor evaluation, solution selection, procurement support, implementation, and ongoing performance.
  • Develop business cases and clearly communicate the expected value of robotics initiatives, including improvements in productivity, efficiency, safety, and compliance.
  • Prepare and maintain project plans, technical documentation, risk assessments, and compliance documentation.
  • Support robotics deployments within regulated environments and ensure solutions appropriately address applicable GMP, FDA, ISO, and validation requirements.
  • Collaborate with validation and quality teams on IQ/OQ/PQ activities when applicable.
  • Gather feedback and requirements from individual sites to help guide broader robotics and automation strategy.
  • Identify and assess future robotics opportunities and contribute to the development of a long-term automation project pipeline.
  • Communicate project status, risks, technical considerations, and recommendations to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Professional experience in robotics engineering, applications engineering, sales engineering, automation engineering, robotics integration, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience deploying robotics or automated systems within manufacturing, logistics, laboratory, or similar operational environments.
  • Hands-on experience with one or more leading robotics platforms such as KUKA, FANUC, ABB Robotics, Universal Robots (UR), MiR, OTTO, or comparable technologies.
  • Experience translating operational or business requirements into robotics and automation solutions.
  • Experience supporting robotics projects from initial requirements and proof-of-concept through implementation, integration, commissioning, and/or troubleshooting.
  • Strong project management skills with experience coordinating cross-functional teams, vendors, systems integrators, and technical stakeholders.
  • Experience with project documentation, technical requirements, risk assessments, and project planning.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to work effectively across multiple sites, functions, cultures, and disciplines.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to U.S. sites, including Puerto Rico, as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Robotics or automation experience within pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical device, life sciences, or another highly regulated industry.
  • Knowledge of GMP/cGMP, FDA, ISO, or similar regulatory requirements.
  • Experience supporting equipment or automation validation, including IQ/OQ/PQ.
  • Experience working with AMRs, AGVs, collaborative robots/cobots, robotic arms, material handling automation, or laboratory automation.
  • Experience working directly with robotics OEMs, systems integrators, and automation vendors.
  • Experience developing and executing robotics proof-of-concept or pilot programs.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills and experience supporting geographically dispersed or global teams.
