Position Overview
Seeking a compassionate and skilled Pediatric Registered Nurse (RN) to support a busy pediatric practice. This role focuses on providing direct patient care, administering immunizations, conducting telephone triage, and collaborating with providers to deliver exceptional care to pediatric patients and their families. The ideal candidate will have strong pediatric nursing skills, excellent communication abilities, and a passion for patient and family education.
Schedule & Work Details
- Department: Pediatrics
- Location: Somerville, MA
- Schedule: Flexible, up to 40 hours per week
- Office Hours: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM - 6:00/6:15 PM
- Shift Options: Flexible 6-hour, 8-hour, 10-hour, or other shift lengths based on department needs
- Additional Opportunities: Potential weekend shifts in Pediatric Urgent Care (9:00 AM - 5:00 PM)

Key Responsibilities
- Administer pediatric immunizations in accordance with physician orders, vaccination schedules, and organizational protocols.
- Assess patients prior to immunization administration and monitor for adverse reactions.
- Provide education to patients and families regarding vaccines, immunization schedules, side effects, and preventive healthcare.
- Perform telephone triage for pediatric patients and families, assessing symptoms, determining urgency, and providing appropriate guidance.
- Document all patient interactions, triage assessments, vaccinations, and clinical communications accurately and timely within the electronic medical record.
- Respond to parent and caregiver inquiries regarding illnesses, medications, treatment plans, and follow-up care.
- Collaborate closely with pediatricians, nurse practitioners, medical assistants, and support staff to coordinate patient care.
- Support routine pediatric visits, wellness exams, and other clinical services as needed.
- Assist with patient assessments, vital signs, screenings, and nursing interventions within scope of practice.
- Educate families regarding health promotion, disease prevention, medication administration, and age-appropriate care.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and maintain compliance with organizational, state, and federal regulations.
- Maintain current knowledge of pediatric nursing best practices and immunization guidelines.
- May support Pediatric Urgent Care operations and seasonal flu clinic initiatives based on departmental needs.
Required Qualifications
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license.
- Experience administering vaccinations and immunizations.
- Strong telephone triage and patient assessment skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Ability to work effectively with pediatric patients and their families.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced outpatient environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Pediatric nursing experience strongly preferred.
- Previous experience in a pediatric clinic, physician practice, or ambulatory care setting.
- Experience with pediatric telephone triage.
- Strong immunization administration experience.
- Ability to educate and reassure children and families effectively.
- Familiarity with electronic medical record documentation.
- Flexible and adaptable approach to scheduling and departmental needs.
