Overview

The Registered Nurse (RN) delivers high-quality, patient-centered care through the application of the nursing process, evidence-based practice, and professional nursing standards. The RN is accountable for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care while collaborating with the interdisciplinary healthcare team to achieve optimal patient outcomes.

This role maintains responsibility and accountability for assigned patients, including oversight of delegated activities performed by Technical Nurses, Patient Care Associates, Sitters, and other support staff. The RN may also serve in a charge nurse capacity when assigned and is expected to provide care appropriate to the age and developmental needs of the patient population served.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver safe, effective, and compassionate nursing care using the nursing process.
  • Assess, monitor, and evaluate patient conditions and responses to treatment.
  • Develop and implement individualized plans of care.
  • Collaborate effectively with physicians, advanced practice providers, therapists, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Coordinate care and ensure continuity across the patient care continuum.
  • Delegate tasks appropriately while maintaining accountability for patient outcomes.
  • Function as Charge Nurse when assigned.
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation.
  • Adhere to organizational policies, regulatory requirements, and professional standards of practice.
  • Promote a culture of safety, quality, patient satisfaction, and teamwork.

Qualifications

Education

  • Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) from an accredited school of nursing required.
  • Nurses hired on or after June 14, 2017, must obtain a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited institution within three (3) years of hire or transfer into the position.
  • Employees hired or transferred prior to established organizational BSN requirements will remain subject to the conditions outlined in their offer letter and applicable organizational policies.

Experience

  • Less than one (1) year of related nursing experience required.

Licensure

  • Current Florida Registered Nurse license, or eligibility for Florida RN licensure with confirmation of eligibility pending issuance upon receipt of Social Security Number.

Certifications

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross required on the first day of employment.

Additional department-specific certifications may include:

  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
  • Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) Certification

Certifications must be obtained within department-specific timelines as required.

Preferred Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)

Experience

  • One (1) year of clinical nursing experience

Certifications

  • Specialty nursing certification relevant to clinical practice area
