Job Summary

This department supports the care of Level II trauma patients and comprehensive stroke patients, requiring a high level of clinical coordination and expertise. Under the supervision of the Director, the Progressive Neuro/Trauma Nurse Manager oversees the staff of the Progressive Neuro/Trauma Unit and works closely with the department director, clinical educator, and resource nurses to guide the department's growth, patient satisfaction, physician relationships, and fiscal responsibility.

Job Qualifications

Maintains Clinical knowledge of areas within the department.
Manages day-to-day operations involving scheduling, patient-team rounding, and ensuring patient and family satisfaction.
Assists unit educator with competency development and execution.
Assists resource nurse with admission, transfer, or discharge coordination.
Assist department director in interviewing and hiring personnel.
Assist the unit director with the monitoring and evaluation of employee performance, implementation of learning plans, and the completion of staff yearly evaluations.
Assists in counseling staff and in implementing disciplinary processes when indicated, including termination.
Provides leadership in compliance with regulatory agency standards, national nursing standards and specialty nursing standards.
Assists in monitoring the delivery of high-quality patient care and in evaluating patient optimal outcomes.
Assists unit director with budget formulation and execution.
Maintains quality audits and monitors daily core measures.
Assist with the monitoring, management, and ordering of supplies.
Assists in the procurement, monitoring, maintenance, and purchasing of capital and non-capital equipment.
The nurse manager will continue to oversee departmental operations in the absence of the director and will manage issues outside of their job description scope to Senior Leadership as needed.
Will assist staff in the direct delivery of patient care during extreme volume surges and when if internal or external crisis, which may affect patient care arise.
Will participate in staff rounding, staff meetings, and related committee meetings.
Performs all other duties as assigned
Education & Experience:

1+ years of leadership experience (Coordinator, Manager or higher)
Critical Care experience preferred
Bachelor's Degree
NH RN License or Compact State RN License
ACLS & BLS within 30 days of hire
Will consider a CNC, supervisor or a seasoned charge nurse ( 5+ yrs)

Additional Information

23 bed Progressive care neuro trauma unit.

This unit cares for neuro patients (strokes, craniotomies, brain bleeds & Altered mental status as well as patients have seizures).

It is also a trauma unit patients with neck, spine, rib, femur, and pelvic fractures from falls and accidents of all types.

50 percent of our patient providers are hospitalists and 48 percent are trauma and 2-4 percent are under the neuro surgery providers.

Must be competent in neuro trauma care management, with an eye toward excellence in service care rounding on patients and helping the teams with care planning.

This role is responsible for quality reviews medication scanning reviews, documentation of medication protocols and attendance at team meetings, staff meetings and quality meetings.
