Job Summary and Qualifications

The RN Coord EMS is responsible for the efficient and effective coordination of EMS patient offloading, ensuring seamless transitions of care, and fostering a collaborative environment with EMS partners. This role involves clinical resource provision, staff education, equipment management, and adherence to established standards of care. The RN Coord EMS also provides oversight and delegates patient care to team members, contributing to a culture of patient-centered care. 

  •  Responsible for greeting and offloading all EMS arrivals during scheduled shift, proper reception of the patient and initiating patient care, and proper handoff of each patient to receiving RN for continuity of care. 
  • Functions as a clinical resource person for staff members and provides education as necessary, when not offloading EMS patients. 
  • Provides oversight, prioritizes and delegates patient care to team members based on accurate patient assessment and staff capabilities. 
  • Collaborates with EMS partners to create an environment of teamwork that supports improved outcomes and service. 
  • Participates in quarterly educational and training events with hospital staff and EMS agencies. 
  • Greets and offloads all EMS arrivals during scheduled shift. 
  • Ensures proper reception of the patient and initiates patient care. 
  • Ensures proper handoff of each patient to receiving RN for continuity of care. 
  • Functions as a clinical resource person for staff members. 
  • Provides education to staff members as necessary. 
  • Accurately scans and records equipment and supplies to ensure appropriate charges and inventory control. 
  • Prepares and ensures equipment in the EMS offload area is functional. 
  • Collaborates with EMS partners to create an environment of teamwork. 
  • Recommends and implements courses of action including training and development of relief EMS RNs. 
  • Assists in managing department flow through coordination with assigned Clinical Nurse Coordinator. 
  • Makes decisions regarding activities based on Administrative Operational Standards, Nursing Administrative Standards, Human Resource Standards, and standards of Care for the unit, in collaboration with other members of management team. 
  • Contributes to a culture of patient centered care by ensuring a quiet healing environment.
  •  Meets Assumption of Care standards as set by HCA. 
  • Provides oversight, prioritizes and delegates patient care to team members based on accurate patient assessment and staff capabilities. ​​
  • Performs other duties as assigned. ​ 

What experience do you need:  

  • Florida RN license and/or approved multistate RN license required. Compact license holders have 60 days to obtain the Florida license after relocation
  • BLS-AHA Provider issued card required within 30 days of start 
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing preferred
  • NIH Stroke Scale must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date 
  • Nonviolent Crisis Intervention must be obtained within 6 months of employment start date 
  • TNCC required within 1 year 
  • Advanced Cardiac LifeSpt, or ACLS Instructor must be obtained within 6 months of employment start date  
  • 1+years experience PALS Pediatric Adv Life Supt, or PALS Instructor must be obtained within 6 months of employment start date
