Position Overview

The registered nurse (RN) is accountable for the coordination of nursing care, including direct patient care, patient and family education, and transitions of care. The RN supports professional nursing practice across various settings and throughout the continuum of care to meet the needs of patients and their families. The RN will function within a professional nursing practice model, which includes accountability for planning, implementing, evaluating, and communicating all phases of nursing care for assigned patients. The RN provides leadership through activities such as preceptor roles, informal leadership roles, and quality improvement efforts. The RN delegates patient care according to skill level, experience, patient acuity, fiscal accountability, and adequacy of resources. The RN possesses excellent communication skills, is skillful in mentoring and teaching, and may participate in committees or projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and provide direct patient care in an ICU setting.
  • Educate patients and families on health conditions and care plans.
  • Facilitate transitions of care within and between healthcare settings.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives.
  • Serve as a mentor and educator to other nursing staff.
  • Engage in professional development and continuous learning.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years of recent acute care ICU nursing experience.
  • Preferred experience in cardiovascular surgery ICU.
  • Experience with ventricular assist devices (VAD), Impella, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), and balloon pumps preferred.
  • Cardiac monitoring/telemetry skills and ability to read ECG strips.
  • 6 months to 1 year of travel nursing experience required.

Schedule and Additional Information

  • 13-week assignment, 36 hours per week.
  • Day/Night rotation (0700-1930 and 1900-0730) and straight nights (1900-0730), every 3rd weekend.
  • Floating required as needed.
  • Option for 48 hours guaranteed can be discussed and determined at offer.
  • ECG exam required during orientation, must pass to continue assignment.
