1 - Risk Manager for 8 hours per day, 245 workdays per year
This eligibility list will be valid for one year and will be used to fill an upcoming vacancy due to a retirement. Expected start date would be in December.
Plan, coordinate and supervise the risk management and asbestos management activities of the District; recommend policy related to area of responsibility; manage employee benefits including self-funded insurance programs; and plan and coordinate the District Safety Program; and perform a variety of other duties relative to assigned area of responsibility.
Examples of Duties
Essential Functions:
Compile and analyze data to develop and recommend policies and administrative regulations regarding asbestos management, employee benefits management, safety, emergency preparedness, self-funded insurance programs and public liability risk factors; appear before Board to make reports and respond to inquiries.
Plan, organize and coordinate the District safety program involving disaster preparedness, employee and student safety, and public risk factors; including the Injury and Illness Prevention Program.
Analyze the Districts claim, loss and accident history and identify methods to eliminate, minimize or indemnify risks or possible losses; review District projects and purchases for hazards and recommend methods for eliminating/reducing risk.
Participate in the investigation of employee accidents, claims, thefts, and property losses and coordinates the preparation of materials and evidence for use in hearing, litigation and insurance claim cases; represent the District on the Board of Directory, Ventura County Schools Self-Funding Authority.
Negotiate adjustments of insured and uninsured losses with insurance adjusters, third party administrators, attorneys, and insurance companies.
As AHERA designated person, plan, organize, implement and administer the Districts asbestos management plan; including regular inspections, employee training, monitoring of asbestos, record keeping and other requirements of Federal AHERA regulations.
Select, train and evaluate the performance of assigned personnel.
Provide ongoing safety training for employees.
Assure that all new vehicles, buildings or equipment are included in the Districts insurance coverage.
Compile information needed for application for insurance coverage and respond to requests for insurers for information.
Review and analyze changes and proposed changes in laws which impact the risk management function of the District and make recommendations for action based on the review and analysis.
Operate a computer and modern software to develop, direct and maintain a computerized risk management program.
Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.

This is a Dual Certification recruitment: Candidates who attain a passing score on each examination part will be placed in rank order on an eligibility list after promotional credits are added to the composite test scores of promotional candidates.
