We're looking for a Revenue Tax Specialist 3 to join our Taxpayer Compliance Division

Minimum Qualifications

Six semester hours in accounting, business, economics, finance, management, information systems management, or quantitative methods plus one of the following:

Five years of experience in accounting, financial auditing, tax administration, tax policy or law, management analysis, or administrative services in a financial setting

Six years of full-time work experience in any field plus two years of experience in accounting, financial auditing, tax administration, tax policy or law, management analysis, or administrative services in a financial setting; OR

A bachelors degree plus two years of experience in accounting, financial auditing, tax administration, tax policy or law, management analysis, or administrative services in a financial setting; OR

An advanced degree or Juris Doctorate plus one year of experience in accounting, financial auditing, tax administration, tax policy or law, management analysis, or administrative services in a financial setting; OR

Possession of a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license or a current Louisiana license to practice law.

EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:

Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:

  • The incumbent of this postilion must have an extensive working knowledge of the various Economic incentive rebates,

such as Quality jobs and Enterprise Zone.

  • Must be knowledgeable about the Sales Tax laws, applicable rules and regulations.
  • Must possess strong interpretational, analytical, communication, listening and interpersonal skills.
  • Duties are performed at the advanced level, highly independent, and the use of decision making skills is required.
  • Performs in-house reviews to determine accurate reporting and compliance with state tax laws.
  • Audit complex refund or rebate claims to verify accuracy, researching and resolving high-level errors and compliance issues
  • Comparing 3rd party data to tax returns filed by taxpayers with the Louisiana Department of Revenue to determine if the correct amount of the refund or rebate due or to deny where appropriate. lncumbent must document discrepancies,
  • Make appropriate adjustments to taxpayer accounts, issue assessments, approve refunds and routinely correspond with other state agencies, taxpayers, tax preparers and officers of corporations both verbally and in writing.
  • Testifies before the Louisiana Board of Tax Appeals and/or district or state court as needed to defend positions.

Appointment Type: Probational Appointment, Job Appointment, Promotion, or Detail to Special Duty

Current permanent status classified state employees may be required to accept a probational appointment.

Compensation: The salary offered will be determined based on qualifications and experience.

A Tax and Natural Disaster Clearance will be conducted on all selected applicants to validate the timely submission of tax returns and payments. It is a requirement that all Revenue employees must adhere to all tax laws of the State of Louisiana.

LA R.S.15:587.5, 587.6 and the IRS require the Louisiana Department of Revenue to conduct a criminal history records check of a prospective employee who will access federal tax information to perform job duties.
