MU Housing, a department within the Division of Student Affairs, provides a world-class housing experience by engaging students within an innovative and educational environment that supports best on-campus housing practices and promotes student success.
This application is intended ONLY for current Resident Advisors (RA). Current RAs must submit an updated HR application in order to be considered for a returner RA position in the 2026-2027 academic year.
All RA applicants (current staff and new applicants) must sign a housing contract at https://housing.missouri.edu/renew.
Current RAs who return for the 2026-2027 academic year will be assigned an RA housing assignment in late spring/early June. You will not select a room preference in the housing portal.
Job Description
RAs are focused on building community within the residence halls. RAs serve as mentors and leaders within the halls by having a robust knowledge of the University of Missouri and MU Housing. RAs will connect residents to leadership, service, and involvement opportunities on campus.
As agents of the University, RAs are part of a team that strives to support and know their residents, while also creating a strong sense of belonging within the halls and on campus. RAs serve as ambassadors for MU Housing, the Division of Student Affairs, and Mizzou and must serve as positive members of the university community while in their positions.
RAs are a presence in the halls. They are responsible for setting and role modeling expectations on their respective floors by abiding by and enforcing MU Housing and University guidelines and procedures. RAs help create a positive community in the hall by managing conflict between roommates and residents. They also have a thorough understanding of emergency protocols and the opening and closing procedures.
RAs are expected to be a positive brand ambassador for MU Housing by communicating the benefits of living in the halls, while also promoting employment opportunities within the department. RAs assist with contracting in their position; this may include, but is not limited to, tabling, working, and planning hall events and having conversations with residents about living with MU Housing.
MU Housing is a 365/24/7 operation, and RA presence is required in order to provide exceptional services and experiences for our residents. RAs may be required to complete tasks in the residence halls during scheduled academic breaks and university closures.
RAs are required to arrive early in August to participate in annual RA training, Mizzou Move-In, and Welcome Week activities. They are also required to stay late in December and May to assist with closing hall operations for the semester and academic year.

Required Attendance and Participation
RAs are expected and required to arrive to and depart campus, as well as participate in, the following in accordance with the dates outlined below:
August 7 - 9, 2026: RA Move-In Weekend
August 9 - 15, 2026: RA August Training
Anticipate required participation between 8 a.m. - 7 p.m. daily
August 15, 2026: Early Arrivals Move-In
Anticipate required participation between 8 a.m. - 7 p.m.
August 15 - 18, 2026: Move-In Preparation
August 19 - 20, 2026: Mizzou Move-In
Anticipate required participation between 8 a.m. - 7 p.m.
December 21, 2026: Winter Recess
Anticipate departure after 10 a.m.
January 14, 2027: RA Winter Training Check-In
Arrive by 8 p.m.
January 14 - 17, 2027: RA Winter Training
Anticipate required participation between 8 a.m. - 7 p.m.
May 17, 2027: End of Year Hall Closing
Anticipate departure after 10 a.m.
ALL DATES AND TIMES ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE
Training is a mandatory part of your appointment and failure to attend training may result in appointment action up to and including termination from the appointment. Having previously completed training does not exempt you from further training.
Additional Responsibilities
Shift
The RA role requires on average a commitment of 20 hours per week; however, hours may vary based on department needs
This position may require evening and weekend hours supporting activities and programs within the department. Occasionally division and campus projects may require additional hours outside of your normal schedule

Lived in MU Housing for 2 semesters prior to the start of the appointment
Anticipated Hiring Range
Compensation includes a single residence hall room and a top-tier dining meal plan for the term of the appointment. RAs are required to maintain 100% occupancy in their university-provided room, suite, and/or apartment. The university housing assignment is decided at the discretion of MU Housing.
