Position Summary
Our client, a global leader in climate control and data center cooling technology, is seeking an experienced Retrofit Engineering Manager to lead engineering activities supporting retrofit and controls upgrade projects for mission-critical HVAC and data center cooling systems. This role is responsible for leading a team of controls engineers and technicians, driving retrofit execution, supporting business development initiatives, and partnering across engineering, sales, service, and product teams to deliver innovative controls solutions and exceptional customer outcomes. The ideal candidate is a collaborative technical leader with a passion for mentoring engineers, improving engineering processes, and advancing controls technologies.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of controls engineers and senior controls technicians across multiple locations.
- Manage engineering resources, project schedules, and technical priorities to ensure successful delivery of retrofit and controls upgrade projects.
- Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, controls, and product engineering teams to develop and implement retrofit solutions for HVAC and data center cooling systems.
- Establish controls engineering standards, software development best practices, and commissioning processes to improve quality, consistency, and execution.
- Partner with Sales and Service teams to identify retrofit opportunities, develop technical solutions, support customer presentations, and prepare project proposals.
- Provide technical leadership for controls networking, Building Automation Systems (Client), system integration, commissioning, and complex troubleshooting.
- Support new product introductions, controls enhancements, and continuous improvement initiatives that improve system performance, reliability, and customer satisfaction.
- Evaluate emerging technologies, strengthen supplier relationships, and recommend engineering and product improvements that support long-term business growth.
- Foster a culture of technical excellence, accountability, collaboration, and continuous professional development within the engineering team.
Required Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent experience.
- 7+ years of experience in controls engineering, HVAC systems, building automation, industrial controls, or mission-critical/data center infrastructure.
- Previous engineering leadership or technical team management experience.
- Strong knowledge of HVAC controls, Building Automation Systems (Client), PLCs, industrial networking, and control system architecture.
- Experience leading retrofit projects, commissioning activities, controls integration, and field troubleshooting.
- Demonstrated ability to lead multiple engineering projects while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Excellent communication, organizational, leadership, and customer relationship skills.
Preferred Qualifications- Experience supporting mission-critical facilities, data centers, or critical cooling infrastructure.
- Knowledge of Building Management Systems (Client), IP-based control systems, and industrial networking.
- Experience driving engineering process improvements, controls standardization, and new technology adoption.
- Professional certifications related to controls engineering, networking, or data center technologies are a plus.
Travel- Ability to travel approximately 25 35% to manufacturing facilities, customer sites, and project locations to support engineering reviews, commissioning, customer meetings, and team collaboration.
