    Retail Experience & Environment Lead

Ready to lead the team that shapes our guest experience from the ground up? Join us at Haymarket!

    About Us

The legacy of Ashbourne Farms is built on deep agricultural tradition, from breeding Shorthorn cattle to serving original farm-to-table cuisine. Today, that means responsibly raised animals, sustainably grown produce, and true care for our land. Through Haymarket, we celebrate the finest local and global artisans—bringing freshly harvested produce, artisan bread, pasture-raised meats, drive-thru coffee, and prepared foods straight from our soil to our shelves.

We are looking for an energetic, detail-oriented Retail Experience & Environment Lead to take ownership of the physical guest environment across our store, greenhouse, and property grounds! In this hands-on leadership role, you set the standard for cleanliness, visual appeal, product freshness, and operational readiness. You will direct daily tasks, train and coach team members, maintain living plant displays, and ensure our sales floor creates an unforgettable first impression for every guest who walks through our doors.

If you thrive in a steady, structured workspace where quality craftsmanship matters and your team looks to you for guidance and support, this is the leadership role for you!

    What You Will Do

    • Lead by Example & Direct Daily Execution: Supervise daily floor tasks, assign responsibilities, train team members, and ensure opening, operating, and closing checklists are executed accurately and on schedule.

    • Maintain Flawless Presentation Standards: Oversee the routine inspection and cleaning of retail sales floors, green spaces, outdoor displays, walkways, and restrooms to keep them in guest-ready condition.

    • Drive Merchandising & Seasonal Setups: Direct the building, stocking, and refreshing of visual displays, seasonal features, and shelf endcaps, ensuring shelf tags and promotional signs are accurate.

    • Champion Perishable Quality & Freshness: Lead regular quality inspections across produce and perishable products, ensuring proper rotation and immediate removal of distressed or unsellable stock.

    • Oversee Plant & Grounds Care: Guide the care, watering, grooming, and maintenance of living plants and green materials across the property.

    • Proactive Problem Solving: Regularly walk customer areas to spot presentation, safety, or facility maintenance issues, resolving them quickly or coordinating escalation with store leadership.

    How We Measure Success

    1. Pristine Property Standards: Keeping the store, greenhouse, and outdoor grounds consistently clean, safe, and welcoming through proactive team follow-through.

    2. Product Freshness & Merchandising Accuracy: Ensuring produce meets rigorous freshness standards, displays remain full and faced, and all shelf pricing is 100% accurate.

    3. Operational Readiness & Team Engagement: Coaching teammates to take pride in the store environment, meeting daily readiness deadlines, and keeping store ambiance at its best.

    Skills & Abilities You Need

    • Supportive Leadership: A non-threatening, encouraging leadership style focused on training, coaching, and motivating teammates to maintain high standards.

    • Keen Eye for Presentation: Strong observational skills to immediately spot merchandising gaps, wilted greenery, dusty fixtures, or misaligned pricing.

    • Clear Communication & Delegation: Ability to communicate daily priorities clearly, give constructive feedback, and keep store management informed of operational needs.

    • Time Management & Organization: Skilled at juggling multiple projects—from seasonal resets to daily upkeep—without missing operational deadlines.

    Education & Experience Requirements

    • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.

    • Experience: 2 to 4 years of hands-on experience in retail merchandising, grocery produce, garden center/greenhouse care, landscaping, or facilities presentation.

    • Leadership Track Record: 1+ years of experience in a team lead, shift coordinator, or supervisory capacity preferred.

    Physical & Workplace Requirements

This is an active, on-your-feet leadership position. To succeed, you must be able to:

    • Stand and walk for 8 to 10 hours per shift across indoor sales floors, warehouses, greenhouses, and outdoor areas.

    • Frequently bend, stoop, crouch, reach, and climb ladders or step stools safely.

    • Regularly lift and carry up to 50 pounds, and push/pull carts or rolling racks weighing up to 100 pounds with proper equipment.

    • Work comfortably across varying environments and seasonal weather conditions, including humidity, cold, heat, soil, pollen, and dust.

    • Safely handle retail and facility cleaning chemicals.

    • Work a flexible schedule that includes mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and seasonal project peaks.
