Restorative CNA PRN

Job Summary:

Provides restorative nursing programs within the scope of CNA practice. Provides therapy delegated programs that are taught and supervised by therapy and beyond the scope and practice of a CNA. The position is a nursing function and reports directly to the restorative nurse or a position in the nursing department. The position works closely with therapy. Works collaboratively with the CNAs and nurses to see that residents receive their programs as planned.

Qualifications and Skills:

1. Licensed Certified Nursing Assistant
2. Minimum of two year of clinical, bedside CNA experience an evidence of positive evaluations
3. Knowledge and skills in basic restorative nursing principles and practices
4. Evidence of ability to work as a member of the team
5. Reliable, good judgment and takes initiative
6. Able to follow verbal and written instructions, able to write in English
7. Physical ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and have manual dexterity
8. Understands and embraces the facility restorative philosophy
9. Communication, organizational, and documentation skills
10. Demonstrates accountability and responsibility

Job Duties:

1. Provides restorative programs:
   1. ROM; Ambulation
   2. Bed mobility, positioning and transfer techniques
   3. Application of splints, braces, cones, prosthetic devices and care of limbs where applied
   4. Assistive feeding devices and Restorative Dining techniques (cueing and swallowing)
   5. Activity of dialing living (bathing, dressing, grooming, personal hygiene)
   6. Incontinent management
   7. Transfer
   8. Communication
2. Participates in restorative dining program, directs regular CNAs about resident restorative dining programs.
3. Serves as a resource and role model for CNAs
4. Documents program completion everyday and narrative progress notes as required by facility policy
5. Attends restorative meeting and care plan conferences
6. Reports unusual problems regarding resident car to nursing staff immediately: pain, refusals, falls, etc
7. Reports malfunctioning or improperly fitting equipment and equipment needs to therapy and restorative nurse.
8. Places preventative/pressure relief mattresses and wheelchair cushions as directed by Restorative Nurse.
9. Offers suggestions and provides input into development of interdisciplinary plan of care.
10. Assists with general orientation and on-going restorative nursing in-services.
11. Participates in the facility Quality Improvement Program as directed by the Restorative Nurse, and reports areas needing improvement.
12. Keeps skills current and enhances present skills by attendance to in-services and seminars.
13. Participates in transfer of residents from Level II to Level III.
14. Assists with Phase II classes, as directed.
15. Performs therapy delegated tasks under the direction and supervision of Therapy.
16. Assuring Resident Safety
