Description

POSITION TITLE: Residential Service Coordinator

LOCATION: Nashville, TN

STATUS: Full Time, Salaried, Exempt

PROGRAM: Developmental Disability Services

REPORTS TO: Director of Developmental Disability Services

Lead Residential Teams. Support Individuals. Make a Difference.

Are you an experienced residential supervisor who began your career providing direct support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD)?
Do you understand what it takes to operate a successful residential home, supervise Direct Support Professionals (DSPs), support Home Coordinators, and ensure individuals receive safe, quality, person-centered services?

Volunteers of America Mid-States is seeking a hands-on Residential Service Coordinator (RSC) to provide operational leadership and supervision for approximately four residential homes serving individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in the Nashville area.

This is a residential operations leadership position—not primarily a clinical, behavioral therapy, or traditional case management role.
We are looking for someone who understands residential services from direct experience and can confidently support staff, manage daily operations, address service concerns, and step in when additional support is needed.

About Volunteers of America Mid-States
Volunteers of America Mid-States is a mission-driven nonprofit organization committed to creating positive change in the lives of individuals and communities through a ministry of service.
Our Developmental Disability Services program supports individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in living meaningful, safe, and fulfilling lives in their homes and communities.

Position Summary
The Residential Service Coordinator provides direct supervision, coaching, and operational oversight to Home Coordinators/Home Managers who are responsible for the day-to-day operation of one or two residential homes.

The RSC typically oversees approximately four residential homes and is accountable for maintaining safe, well-managed environments, effective staffing, quality services, regulatory compliance, and person-centered support.
Because this is a hands-on residential leadership role, the successful candidate must have practical experience working in an IDD residential home and supervising or leading direct support staff.
The RSC must be capable of stepping into residential operations when necessary, including supporting Home Coordinators and DSPs during staffing challenges, emergencies, or other operational needs.

Required Qualifications
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience providing direct support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in a staffed residential home, group home, supported living, or comparable community residential setting.
  • Experience supervising, leading, coaching, or providing documented operational oversight to Direct Support Professionals or residential support staff.
  • Working knowledge of residential routines, personal care, activities of daily living, behavioral support implementation, person-centered services, and community participation.
  • Experience addressing staffing challenges, employee performance concerns, home operations, and service delivery issues.
  • Ability and willingness to provide direct residential support and temporary coverage when operationally necessary.
  • Ability to monitor service documentation, individual support plans, health and safety practices, and regulatory compliance.
  • Strong organizational, communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent progressively responsible experience serving individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, consistent with agency requirements.
  • Valid Tennessee driver's license and ability to travel between assigned homes.
Important: Experience working exclusively as a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT), behavioral therapist, or clinical service provider does not independently satisfy the residential direct-support and supervisory experience requirements. Candidates with these backgrounds are encouraged to apply if they also possess the required residential experience.

Preferred Qualifications
  • At least two years of hands-on residential DSP experience.
  • At least one year of experience as a Home Coordinator, House Manager, Lead DSP, Residential Supervisor, Assistant Residential Manager, or comparable position with responsibility for directing or supervising residential staff.
  • Experience overseeing multiple residential homes or supporting multiple residential teams.
  • Familiarity with Tennessee DIDD requirements, HCBS standards, and person-centered residential services.
  • Experience conducting home inspections, monitoring medication administration practices, reviewing documentation, and implementing corrective actions.
  • Experience with staff scheduling, training compliance, emergency response, and continuous quality improvement.

Key Responsibilities
Residential Operations and Home Oversight
  • Provide operational oversight for approximately four residential homes supporting individuals with IDD.
  • Directly supervise Home Coordinators/Home Managers responsible for the daily operation of assigned homes.
  • Conduct regular on-site monitoring to ensure homes are safe, clean, appropriately staffed, and operating according to agency expectations.
  • Identify and resolve operational concerns related to staffing, service delivery, individual needs, transportation, and household management.
  • Ensure the implementation of individual support plans and person-centered services.
Staff Leadership and Accountability
  • Provide coaching, mentoring, performance feedback, and supervision to assigned Home Coordinators/Home Managers.
  • Support Home Coordinators in supervising DSPs, maintaining staffing schedules, addressing performance concerns, and ensuring staff accountability.
  • Assist with onboarding, staff development, training compliance, and performance improvement.
  • Respond promptly to staffing shortages, call-outs, and other residential operational challenges.
Hands-On Residential Support
  • Serve as an operational backup to Home Coordinators and DSPs when needed to maintain continuity of care.
  • Provide appropriate direct support to individuals when circumstances require additional staffing or immediate assistance.
  • Demonstrate sound judgment and leadership during emergencies, staffing disruptions, and other situations affecting individual health and safety.
  • Model appropriate direct-support practices, professionalism, dignity, and respect for individuals receiving services.
Quality, Safety, and Compliance
  • Monitor individual records, service documentation, and monthly reviews for accuracy, completeness, and regulatory compliance.
  • Ensure that support plans, health and safety protocols, incident reporting procedures, and medication-related policies are followed.
  • Conduct routine residential monitoring visits and follow up on identified concerns.
  • Ensure timely implementation of corrective actions and ongoing quality improvement activities.
  • Monitor residential spending, individual funds, and required financial documentation according to agency policies.
  • Collaborate with nursing, quality, day services, families, guardians, support coordinators, and other service partners.
  • Participate in management meetings and performance quality improvement initiatives.

If you have hands-on experience working in IDD residential homes, have successfully led residential support staff, and are ready to help strengthen residential services in Nashville, we encourage you to apply.
