Allen County Government is looking for a knowledgeable hands-on professional to step into the role of Residential Building Inspector. You wont just be inspecting homes-youll be helping ensure safety, quality, and compliance for families across Allen County.
What Youll Do
As a Residential Building Inspector, youll be out in the field and in the community:
- Conduct inspections on new construction, remodels, and residential renovations.
- Ensure compliance with state and local building codes.
- Partner with contractors, designers, and property owners to explain requirements and resolve issues.
- Investigate complaints and follow through to resolution.
- Document findings, prepare reports, and track compliance.
- Perform follow-up inspections on code violations.
- Interpret and apply building codes with sound judgment and professionalism.
What You Bring to the Table
- Youre not entry-level-youve been in the field and know how construction really works.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- 8 years of experience as a licensed residential contractor.
- Valid Allen County Contractor License.
- Inspector Certification or equivalent.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and construction plans.
- Strong understanding of residential building codes and practices.
- Solid communication skills-you can explain complex code requirements in plain language.
- Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office and reporting tools).
- Valid Drivers License.
