General Description

This is seasonal or temporary work performing services aimed at improving the quality of life of City residents. Persons in this class are assigned to the Department of Resident Services and work under the direction of Department of Resident Services Director, Supervisor, and Specialist. Employees will perform both manual and administrative tasks relative to remediating blight and improving the quality of life for residents.

Employees in this class are primarily responsible for performing manual labor utilizing a variety of lawn & garden equipment. Employees in class will perform standardized administrative tasks utilizing a variety of electronic technology devices including, but not limited to mobile devices, desktop computers and applicable software. Employees in class will be responsible for overseeing work performed at multiple locations throughout the city and leeway will be granted for exercise of independent judgement to address tasks of various natures.

Essential Job Functions

• Acts as a crew leader for Resident Services seasonal employees working outside the purview of Resident Services Director, Coordinator or Specialist.
• Performs mowing, trash removal, cleaning, hauling and other tasks as assigned per Health Department sanitarians and citizen complaints.
• Assists in making repairs to buildings, to cleaning up facilities and in moving property from one location to another.
• Performs various grounds and facilities maintenance tasks at city-owned buildings and vacant lots.
• Operates trucks, trailers, law equipment, basic hand tools and garden tools and equipment.
• Assist with special events including, but not limited to festivals, parades, and conferences as assigned.
• Performs related work as required.

Skills/Knowledges/Abilities

• Knowledge of the practices, tools and materials involved in the performance of semi-skilled tasks within the work area assigned.
• Ability to lead, make decisions, follow instructions and to exercise normal caution.
• Ability to perform semi-skilled tasks without close supervision.
• Ability to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods and under unfavorable weather conditions.
• Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions.
• Ability to get along well with fellow employees and the public.
• Ability to comprehend and interpret applicable City ordinances relevant to work performed.
• Ability to operate mobile technology devices and software.
• Experience as a laborer or trades helper or in a field of general construction is useful although not required.

Training/Education/Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

• Must be Eighteen (18) years of age.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience performing relevant duties for previous employer(s).
• Completion of a standard high school education.
• Possession of a valid driver's license.
