The Resident Director is a member of the professional, live-in Residence Life staff within the Office of Student Life and Success at the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg. The Office of Student Life and Success oversees a range of services that support students'' holistic development outside the classroom, including Residence Life, Student Activities & First-Year Experience, Counseling, and Career Services, as well as support for commuter students, who make up a significant percentage of the student population.

In this role, the Resident Director will be responsible for the overall management of one to two residence halls on campus, each housing approximately 100-125 students, and will support the Office of Student Life and Success and the University in advancing its mission, goals, and policies.

Oversees and manages the University's residential facilities, residence life educational programs, residentially-based academic communities, residence life student and professional staff, and all promotional communications for the department. Ensures the safety and security of residents and development of the departmental comprehensive emergency management plan. Facilitates operational decisions within broadly defined parameters that require a high level of judgement. Establishes the direction, goals, implementation strategy, and policies of the department. Performs budgetary functions.

In order to provide a high level of coverage and support for our students across multiple residential communities, the Resident Director will be responsible for, or share responsibility for, the following:

Student Support & Community Development

  • Assisting students and maintaining regular office hours
  • Managing roommate and/or staff conflicts within their assigned residence hall
  • Enforcing residence hall policies and procedures fairly and consistently
  • Meeting with students and conducting student conduct hearings
  • Developing community-building and educational programs and initiatives as part of the department''s residential curriculum
  • Serving as advisor/co-advisor to departmental-related organizations and as a liaison to student organizations, including staffing evening and weekend programs

Staff Supervision

  • Supervising and supporting a staff of 4-8 Community Assistants (CAs), including programming, supervision, and personal/professional development
  • Assisting the Director with CA recruitment, selection, and training

Daily Operations & Safety

  • Overseeing daily operations of the assigned residence hall, including room assignments and occupancy processes, in coordination with Student Life and Success, Facilities Management, and Campus Police to ensure a safe living environment
  • Participating in the professional staff''s on-call/duty rotation and responding to concerns as they arise
  • Assisting with housing procedures and the opening/closing of residence halls at the start and end of each semester and during scheduled break periods
  • Assisting with summer residence life activities

Programming & Assessment

  • Planning and implementing student activities, orientation programs, and leadership development initiatives
  • Creating content and consistent messaging for communications and programs
  • Designing, developing, and implementing assessments and/or surveys; reviewing results and recommending changes and improvements
