The Center for Sustainable Building Research (CSBR) seeks a motivated individual to serve as a Researcher 2 to assist with design, research and project management support for several multi-year community-based research projects.
This position will require work on one or both of the following projects:
Resilience Hubs
CSBR is collaborating with the Climate Adaptation Partnership on an Asset, Risk, and Capability mapping project to support Community-Based Organizations in Minneapolis and Saint Paul in developing resilience hubs.
Resilience Hubs are community-serving facilities augmented to:
They leverage established, trusted, and community-managed facilities that are used year-round as neighborhood centers for community-building activities. Designed well, Resilience Hubs can equitably enhance community resilience while reducing GHG emissions and improving local quality of life. They are a smart local investment with the potential to reduce burden on local emergency response teams, improve access to health improvement initiatives, foster greater community cohesion, and increase the effectiveness of community-centered institutions and programs.
Moreover, Resilience Hubs provide an opportunity to build local community power and leadership. They are focal points for neighborhood revitalization that provide the resources residents need to enhance their own individual capacity while also supporting and strengthening their neighborhood and neighbors. Instead of being led by local government, they are intended to be supported by local government and other partners but led and managed by community members, community-based organizations, and/or faith-based groups.
Empowering Small Minnesota Communities (ESMC)
This state-funded, three-year project involves working with several community-based teams led by CSBR research fellows and research assistants, in coordination with the regional Executive Directors of the Regional Sustainable Development Partnership, with the staff of the Center for Transportation Studies and the Resilient Communities Project, and with faculty from the Humphrey School of Public Affairs. The goal of the project is to help small (under 10,000 population) communities in the state compete more effectively for funding from sources such as the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA), the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), and the state's Legacy, Bonding and LCCMR funds.
Duration: This is a 12-month appointment with a possible extension based on funding availability, 40 hours per week.

CSBR creates viable pathways capable of transforming the built environment in the state and region to be a powerful model of regenerative design and development for deep sustainability on a global stage.
Pay and Benefits
Pay Range: $25.15 - $28/hr; depending on education/qualifications/experience
