B.S or M.S. in biology, ecology, or related fields

Position Summary

This position will assist with field and lab work and data management for various projects related to aquatic ecology and conservation with potential opportunities for contributing to data analysis and writing. Additional duties include maintaining lab and field equipment. This position will assist with projects related to biodiversity conservation in the southeast, mussel-fish interactions, high-frequency and synoptic monitoring of water quality, and other aquatic ecology research.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

Experience with data management of continuous, high-frequency sensor data Competency in word processing programs (e.g., Word) as well as data management software including Excel. Familiarity with program R and ArcPro. Experience with fish and aquatic invertebrate identification is beneficial. Experience paddling in rivers.

Physical Demands

Ability to lift 50 lbs and be comfortable working in challenging field conditions, including wading and seining in large rivers, hiking up to 5 miles on unstable terrain, exposure to repetitive tasks, or sitting for long-periods of time.

Duties/Responsibilities

Duties/Responsibilities

Assist with field work on various projects related to aquatic ecology and conservation: including but not limited to fish and invertebrate collection, water quality collection, geomorphic surveys, water quality sensor management.

Percentage of time 35 Duties/Responsibilities

Assist with standard aquatic ecology laboratory work including invertebrate sorting and identification, water quality analysis, and other standard aquatic ecology laboratory tasks

Percentage of time 30 Duties/Responsibilities

Assist with field and lab equipment management. Organize and manage data using Excel, R, and other data management platforms. May also include assisting with data analysis and writing of reports
