Salary Range: Up to $36,800 annualized, commensurate with education, experience, and qualifications.

Job Summary

The Research Science Associate I performs entry-level professional engineering and scientific research assignments related to a particular field of work. This role acquires basic skills to perform routine tasks. For this role, work is prescribed and completed with little autonomy. This position works with either close supervision or under clearly defined procedures. This role is entry level to a business support career progression.

This is a grant-funded position with an expected end date of April 30, 2027. This position is dependent on availability of funds and/or departmental need.

Core Responsibilities

  • Performs professional research and engineering assignments to include performing experiments; gathering and analyzing data and samples; setting up/operating equipment; and inspects minor fabrication, erection or assembly for conformance to specifications.
  • Performs specified phases of research projects to include making and recording observations and measurements; compiles data; processes paperwork; maintains lab accounts; writes technical reports; and assists in the writing and editing process of grants.
  • Trains incoming and existing students on experimental procedures and edits students' papers prior to submission for journals or for class.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma, Vocational Training or Apprenticeship in a related field.
  • One (1) year of related work experience.
  • This position may require the ability to maintain the security and integrity of UT San Antonio and its infrastructure per Texas EO-GA-48.

Working Conditions

  • Usual laboratory or office conditions. Sometimes requires working with hazardous equipment or materials. Ability to travel to and from meetings, training sessions or other business-related events. Workdays, areas, and work hours may vary based on the needs of the department.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to exert up to 10 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.

This position will work primarily on campus. Travel and parking expenses are the employee's responsibility.

This position is contingent upon a successful background check. Verification of a valid driver's license and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) may be completed as applicable. Applicants selected must be able to show proof of eligibility to work in the United States by time of hire.
