The Wake Forest University School of Medicine Cardiovascular Medicine Research Training Program is a one-year program designed to prepare post-baccalaureate scholars for entry into PhD or MD/PhD programs in cardiovascular and related biomedical sciences.
The program combines mentored research with academic and professional development to strengthen research skills, scientific knowledge, and graduate school readiness. Scholars engage in faculty-guided research projects, develop independent research competencies, and participate in coursework, seminars, and career development activities.
Participants dedicate the majority of their time to research, supported by individualized development plans tailored to their goals and experience. The program provides exposure to diverse career paths in cardiovascular medicine and fosters a collaborative environment with faculty, trainees, and peers.
Upon completion, scholars are expected to be competitive applicants for advanced graduate training programs.
