A Brief Overview
This role participates in a planned research projects by performing research protocols. Works independently and self-directed while providing guidance and technical training to other lab staff. Possesses a specialized education in the biological or chemical sciences and is required to exercise appropriate situational discretion and sound scientific judgement in execution / interpretation of experiments, and interpretation of data derived.
This role is well suited for a researcher who enjoys human stem cell culture (hESCs and iPSCs), their modification with fluorescent reporters of synaptic activity, and their differentiation into excitatory and inhibitory neurons, astrocytes, blood brain barrier endothelium, and especially brain macrophages/microglia. The researcher should also enjoy applying that expertise to biologically and clinically relevant questions--with emphasis on neurodevelopmental disorders such as intellectual disability, autism, and schizophrenia. The successful candidate will have opportunities to build advanced skills in cell culture, immunofluorescence, microscopy, disease modeling, and collaborative research while contributing directly to projects with the potential to uncover disease mechanisms and identify therapeutic strategies.
