    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • *Provides patient navigation and cancer care access support to patients, families, caregivers, and healthcare providers for the Susan C. Hirano Cancer C.A.R.E. Community and the Ka Umeke Lama Medical Oncology Fellowship Program at the University of Hawaii Cancer Center.

    • *Provides administrative, operational, and programmatic support to the planning, coordination, and implementation of activities associated with the Susan C. Hirano Cancer C.A.R.E. Community and the Ka Umeke Lama Medical Oncology Fellowship Program.

    • *Serves as the primary point of contact for individuals seeking information about cancer diagnosis, treatment options, second opinions, clinical trials, supportive care services, and community resources. Serves as a trusted resource for patients and families navigating complex healthcare systems and seeking access to cancer-related services.

    • *Conducts intake assessments to identify patient and family needs, barriers to care, and resource gaps. Provides information and guidance regarding available cancer treatment providers, healthcare facilities, specialty services, clinical trial opportunities, supportive care programs, transportation assistance, financial resources, survivorship services, and other relevant support systems.

    • *Maintains current knowledge of local, national, and international cancer care resources, clinical trial databases, and referral networks. Assists individuals in understanding how to access clinical trial information and facilitates connections with appropriate healthcare providers and research institutions when requested.

    • *Coordinates referrals and follow-up communication with community organizations, healthcare systems, patient advocacy groups, and research partners. Documents interactions and resource referrals in accordance with program policies and reporting requirements.

    • *Provides educational materials and information while ensuring that all communications remain within the scope of patient navigation and do not constitute medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment recommendations.

    • *Assists with organizing community events, educational workshops, support programs, wellness activities, and other community engagement initiatives. Coordinates event logistics, participant registration, communications, scheduling, and follow-up activities.

    • *Maintains program records, participant databases, attendance tracking, and program evaluation data. Assists with preparing reports, collecting participant feedback, and documenting program outcomes to support continuous improvement and donor stewardship efforts.

    • *Collaborates with Cancer Center faculty, staff, community partners, patient advocates, and volunteers to enhance program offerings and strengthen community engagement.

    • *Provides administrative support for fellowship-related events, recruitment activities, reporting requirements, and other programmatic needs as the fellowship program develops and launches.

    • *Collaborates with Ka Umeke Lama leadership and program staff to support efforts aimed at strengthening the oncology workforce and expanding access to cancer care throughout Hawaii and the Pacific region.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Possession of a baccalaureate degree in Nursing, Science or health-related field and three (3) years of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for patient navigation, public health, clinical research, oncology support or equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.

    • Considerable working knowledge of methods and procedures in the area of healthcare systems methods and procedures, oncology care delivery, patient navigation principles, community-based resources, and health equity issues affecting access to cancer care

    • Considerable working knowledge and understanding of Federal and State laws, rules, regulations and theories and systems associated with governing of human subjects research and familiarity with clinical trial operations and regulatory requirements.

    • Demonstrated ability to resolve wide ranging complex problems through the use of creative reasoning and logic to accurately determine the cause of the problems and the resolution of the problems in an effective, innovative and timely manner.

    • Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally and by preparation of reports and other materials.

    • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders and members, and individuals.

    • Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and apply word processing software.

    • If applicable, for supervisory work, demonstrated ability to lead subordinates, manage work priorities and projects, and manage employee relations.

    Supplemental Qualifications:

    • Familiarity with medical terminology and the challenges faced by individuals navigating cancer diagnosis and treatment is desirable.

    • Specialized knowledge of specific cancer care sites conducting clinical trials and/or of areas such as education/training, regulatory, investigational drug accountability/storage, specimen collection/processing, database maintenance/reporting and auditing.

    • Demonstrated knowledge in clinical trials, oncology research, and healthcare systems.

    • Demonstrated ability to interact positively with clinical study participants and others involved with the research environment.

    Desirable Qualifications:

    • Masters Degree from an accredited college or university in a health-related field, such as Nursing, Medical Records, Medical Technology or Pharmacology.

    • Working knowledge of the University of Hawai`i (UH), the RCUH, and UHCC policies and procedures.
