CORE JOB SUMMARY

The Research Associate 1, SOM supports research activities for the assigned division by conducting laboratory experiments on assigned research projects. Moreover, the incumbent operates with the goal of advancing his/her expertise through continued education, training, and research.

  9. Performs calculations to complete research test results, collects data, and performs statistical analysis of laboratory results.

  10. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

Department Specific Functions

Job Summary (Purpose and Function):

The individual will be a critical member of an NIH-funded program. The work involves both in vitro and in vivo experiments that will support the discovery and development of novel therapeutics.

Accountabilities (For Non-exempt Employees Include Percent of Effort):

Conduct biochemical and cell-based assays, including high content screening assays Do routine molecular biology (cloning, PCR, RT-PCR, prepare viral vectors) to support the in vitro and in vivo experiments Perform immunochemical staining of tissue sections, and both florescent and confocal microscopy. Maintain laboratory areas; order lab supplies, participate in weekly lab meetings, including presenting results and methods to group members; plan weekly work schedules. Keep detailed laboratory notebooks and maintain documents relating to standard-operating procedures and vectors. Assist other staff or trainees within the lab.
