Professional engineering and technical consulting firm specializing in issues related to counter terrorism and preparedness response operations and national security is currently looking to hire a research assistant. The position will be a full-time entry-level contract position; compensation of $40 – 50k depending on education and experience. Position will be in-office.
· General administrative skills (35%)
o Perform administrative functions such as answering phones, emails, coordinating meetings, and using video conference software
o Organize and consolidate inventory
o File and system management, both paper and electronic formats
o Assist with logistics, such as shipping
o Continually track multiple long-term projects
§ E.g., annual training for various internal and federal requirements
o Ability to work independently
o Ability to closely coordinate with senior research staff on individual projects and team efforts
· Research skills (20%)
o Collect, compare, and compound information from various sources; present information and recommendations in a concise manner
o Creative use of various online tools
o Familiarity with AI tools and use
o Internet navigation and research: verify source credibility, find information in overlooked or unorthodox places
· Basic technical troubleshooting (20%)
o Basic computer troubleshooting skills such as printer errors, software updates, connectivity problems, and device backups
o Adaptable to new software, systems, and devices (e.g., laptops, phones)
o Online security and cyber awareness
§ Understanding and following basic principles of operational security, cyber safety, and data protection
§ Continual monitoring of CUI/CMMC changes, internal maintenance, and policy updates
o Frequent use of online collaboration and productivity tools (e.g., Dropbox, OneDrive)
· Event planning (20%, seasonal)
o Assist with event pre-planning such as: sending invitations and tracking responses, creating informative publications and event notices, assisting with registration, and assisting with event logistics
o Coordinate logistics and administrative arrangements, as operational requirements and mission objectives may shift during the event
o Provide support during the event, such as daily check-in and check-out, answering questions regarding daily activities, continual operational and safety updates, management of inventory at the event’s registration desk station, and tracking support requests
· Graphic Design (5%)
o Creating and compiling informative documents and fliers for events
· Other duties as assigned
· Minimum Associate’s degree
· 1 or more years of experience in similar positions preferred
· Detail-oriented
· Strong time management skills
· Excellent verbal and written communications skills
· Excellent note-taking skills
· Ability to conduct research on a variety of topics using various sources and methodologies
· Ability to analyze and synthesize research results to justify and support conclusions and recommendations
· Proficient knowledge of MS Office programs and other basic computer literacy skills
· Ability to travel
· U.S. Citizen
· Ability to obtain a security clearance
· 1-year minimum commitment
