Position Summary
Sulzer is a non-OEM rotating equipment repair facility located in the Houston area. Sulzer is comprised of several divisions that include the Component Repair Division. Departments within the Component Repair division include Combustion, Stationary, Mechanical, Rotating, Fuel/Flow and Inspection departments. Each department is dedicated to refurbishment of gas turbine components and sub-assembly parts. The Gas Turbine Component Repair Project Engineer is responsible for developing inspection and repair workscopes for stationary and rotating gas turbine components and managing multiple repair projects from receipt through delivery. The engineer works closely with operations, sales and external vendors to define repair methods, generate purchase orders, control cost, and resolve technical issues throughout the repair cycle.
Responsibilities
· Generate repair quotations and work scopes using Dynamics 365(hours & material).
· Inspection and repair work scope development, review, evaluation, and periodic adjustment.
· Collaborate with the component engineering team and department supervisor to develop, refine, and optimize fixturing and tooling designs.
· Reverse engineering and part design improvement.
· Develop customer specific and driven scopes.
· Evaluate inspection results for rotating and stationary gas turbine components (e.g., buckets, nozzles, shrouds, casings)
· Creation of incoming and outgoing disposition reports ensuring technical accuracy.
· Creation and development of inspection and repair forms, repair specifications, written process specification, and component drawings (2D/3D prints and models).
· Work with department supervisor and shop technicians to ensure process, repair, and tooling viability. As well as to optimize, refine and streamline production workflow.
· Order materials for jobs – Specify material from vendors – Write Purchase Orders.
· Develop industry knowledge about competition, vendors, and gas turbine advancements applicable to Sulzer’s business.
· Work with inside and outside sales representatives to provide technical support during customer meetings.
· Work with the component engineering group to develop and maintain drawings, inspection forms and prints.
· Work on and manage special projects per manager’s instructions.
· Develop tooling, processes, documentation, and specifications for flow testing IGT components.
· Help maintain and improve flow test equipment.
· Attend bid meetings / Interact with Customers.
· In-shop (and at times off-site) evaluation and reporting on components.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will possess the following:
· Bachelor's degree in engineering, Sciences, or related field / equivalent experience and training.
· Knowledge in rotating/stationary equipment repairs or similar machinery.
· Be knowledgeable of and enforce safety in all aspects and areas of the position, and with fellow co-workers throughout Sulzer’s various environments, includes those of our customers and vendors.
