Remote Licensed Mental Health Therapist
NorthStar Counseling & Wellness is seeking independently licensed mental health professionals in
Maryland, Washington, D.C., and Virginia to join our growing group practice in a
fully remote W-2 position. Full-time and part-time opportunities are available.

Position Responsibilities
Mental Health Therapists are responsible for independently providing high-quality, ethical, and clinically appropriate behavioral health services via telehealth within their professional scope of practice.
Responsibilities include:
- Conducting comprehensive clinical assessments and identifying client treatment needs
- Developing, implementing, and regularly reviewing individualized treatment plans
- Providing individual, family, couples, and/or group psychotherapy via telehealth based on training, competency, and clinical experience
- Utilizing trauma-informed, person-centered, culturally responsive, and evidence-based approaches to treatment
- Monitoring client progress and adjusting treatment recommendations as clinically appropriate
- Maintaining accurate and timely clinical documentation within the electronic health record
- Coordinating referrals and collaborating with healthcare and community providers when appropriate
- Maintaining client confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA, professional ethical standards, telehealth requirements, and applicable laws and regulations
- Participating remotely in clinical consultation, team meetings, and practice activities as required
- Maintaining all professional licenses, certifications, continuing education requirements, and professional credentials
- Working independently while contributing to a collaborative multidisciplinary team
- Demonstrating strong clinical judgment, organization, communication, attention to detail, and follow-through
Schedule
Employment Options: Full-Time or Part-Time, W-2
Work Arrangement: Fully Remote
Full-time clinicians may generally structure their schedules across:
- Monday through Friday;
- A four-day workweek, depending on caseload and practice needs; or
- Other flexible scheduling arrangements consistent with client demand and position requirements.
Part-time opportunities are also available for independently licensed clinicians who prefer a reduced caseload.
Scheduling is developed collaboratively based on client demand, clinician availability, and practice needs.
Clinical consultation and required team activities are incorporated into the clinician's work schedule and conducted virtually.
Qualifications
We welcome independently licensed professionals from a variety of behavioral health disciplines, including clinical social work, professional counseling, marriage and family therapy, and psychology.
Education
Applicants must hold an applicable graduate or doctoral degree required for their professional license, such as:
- Master's degree in Social Work, Professional Counseling, Marriage & Family Therapy, Psychology, or another qualifying behavioral health discipline; or
- Doctoral degree in Psychology or another qualifying behavioral health discipline.
Licensure
Applicants must currently hold an
active, unrestricted independent clinical behavioral health license in good standing in at least one of the following jurisdictions:
- Maryland
- Washington, D.C.
- Virginia
Qualifying licenses may include
LCSW-C, LCSW, LICSW, LCPC, LPC, LMFT, LCMFT, Licensed Psychologist, or an equivalent independently practicing behavioral health credential, depending on the jurisdiction.
Applicants must be legally authorized to independently provide telehealth behavioral health services in the jurisdiction(s) in which their clients are located.
Clinicians who hold licenses in
more than one DMV jurisdiction are strongly encouraged to apply.
Because this is a fully remote position, clinicians must maintain a
private, professional workspace appropriate for confidential telehealth services and meet applicable privacy, technology, and telehealth requirements.
Preferred Experience
- Previous experience providing psychotherapy or behavioral health treatment
- Experience providing telehealth services
- Experience in an outpatient mental health or private practice setting
- Familiarity with evidence-based, trauma-informed, and person-centered approaches
- Experience working with children, adolescents, adults, couples, and/or families based on the clinician's areas of competency and interest
- Strong clinical assessment, treatment planning, and documentation skills
- Ability to independently manage a clinical caseload in a remote environment
- Strong communication, organization, and time-management skills
- Comfort using electronic health records, telehealth platforms, and other digital clinical tools
- Interest in continued professional development and collaborative clinical consultation
Compensation
NorthStar offers competitive compensation based on professional experience, credentials, schedule, caseload expectations, and position responsibilities.
Full-Time Salary Range: $70,000–$85,000 annually, plus eligible benefits.
Full-time compensation is based on established clinical productivity and caseload expectations.
Actual compensation may vary based on experience, credentials, schedule, productivity expectations, and other position-related factors.
