This position will play an important role in supporting the firm's conflict-of-interest and risk-management processes, with a particular focus on new client business, lateral attorney hires, supplemental searches, pre-clearance requests, business development and related matters.

Job Details

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage timely and accurate conflicts requests related to new client business, supplemental searches, pre-clearance, pending lateral hires, business development and other conflict-related matters.
  • Communicate with lateral candidates, attorneys, recruiting teams and administrative personnel to obtain information necessary to complete conflicts due diligence.
  • Review and analyze conflict-of-interest reports using Upfront and other firm systems.
  • Review lateral candidate questionnaires, client and matter lists, portable business information and related-party information.
  • Research and clarify parties, roles, relationships, corporate affiliations and potential areas of concern.
  • Identify and escalate potential conflicts or issues requiring additional review.
  • Track waivers, consents, engagement letters, screening requirements and other compliance considerations.
  • Monitor pending conflicts requests and follow up appropriately to keep matters moving through the review process.
  • Maintain accurate conflicts databases and related records, including party information, matter history, notes and search results.
  • Support attorneys and business professionals with ethical walls, confidentiality screens, access restrictions and related compliance requirements.
  • Conduct research through legal and business research resources, including Lexis, Westlaw, public records, corporate family-tree resources and other sources.
  • Analyze information from multiple sources to verify parties and identify related entities.
  • Assist with special projects and other conflicts, risk-management or legal operations initiatives as needed.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality when handling sensitive firm, attorney, client and prospective-client information.
  • Work occasional overtime or after-hours assignments when business needs require.

Qualifications
  • Two or more years of experience related to conflicts, legal research, legal operations, law-firm administration or a similar function.
  • Direct law-firm conflicts experience is highly desirable.
  • Law-firm experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience with Upfront is preferred but not required.
  • Strong online legal and business research skills.
  • Familiarity with Westlaw, Lexis or similar research platforms.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage confidential and sensitive information appropriately.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to independently prioritize and complete time-sensitive assignments.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and unexpected requests.
  • Strong customer-service mindset and ability to work effectively with individuals at all levels of an organization.
  • Ability to explain technology, systems and processes clearly to colleagues.
