Pay: $17.00 per hour

Do you have experience with health insurance, benefits verification, medical billing, patient services, or healthcare customer service? We are seeking detail-oriented Benefits Verification Specialists, BVS, to support patients by researching and verifying their insurance coverage.

In this remote role, you will communicate directly with insurance companies to obtain patient-specific benefit information, accurately document coverage details, and help identify potential barriers that could delay patient access to services.

If you are comfortable working with insurance information, navigating computer systems, making outbound calls, and performing detailed data entry, this could be an excellent opportunity for you.

What You’ll Do

  • Review patient insurance information needed to complete the benefits verification process

  • Contact insurance companies to verify patient-specific insurance benefits

  • Ask appropriate questions regarding coverage and accurately document benefit information

  • Verify and document patient coverage, cost-share responsibilities, payer requirements, and provider/access options

  • Identify insurance restrictions and determine available steps to help expedite patient access

  • Route cases with missing or incomplete information to the appropriate program associate

  • Complete detailed data entry and required benefits verification documentation

  • Assist with documenting or initiating prior authorizations, claims appeals, and related processes, as required

  • Perform quality reviews to ensure work is complete and accurate

  • Identify and report reimbursement trends or delays to management

  • Complete special projects and additional related responsibilities as assigned

What We’re Looking For

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required

  • 2+ years of directly related, progressively responsible experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • A two-year degree may substitute for two years of the experience requirement

  • Strong customer service experience

  • Proficiency with Windows-based computer systems

  • Strong data entry and typing skills

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel

  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Professional interpersonal skills

  • Ability to work independently, solve problems, and make sound decisions

  • Strong analytical and organizational abilities

  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work situations

Preferred Experience

Candidates with previous experience in any of the following areas are strongly encouraged to apply:

  • Insurance benefits verification

  • Health insurance or payer services

  • Medical billing and coding

  • Patient access or patient services

  • Healthcare call center operations

  • Prior authorizations

  • Claims or appeals

  • Healthcare reimbursement

  • Pharmacy or pharmaceutical support programs

  • Medical insurance customer service

Remote Work Requirements

This is a remote, BYOD, Bring Your Own Device, position. Candidates must have their own appropriate computer equipment to perform the responsibilities of the position.

Because this role involves frequent communication with insurance companies and handling patient-related information, candidates should also have a professional, quiet, and distraction-controlled workspace suitable for confidential healthcare-related work.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

This is primarily a sedentary, computer-based position. Candidates should be comfortable:

  • Spending 75% or more of the workday working directly on a computer

  • Performing repetitive typing and data entry

  • Communicating regularly by telephone and electronically

  • Maintaining accuracy while processing detailed insurance information

  • Managing deadlines and changing priorities

  • Handling stressful situations professionally as they arise
