About Penn Construction & Design
Penn Construction & Design is a residential design-build firm based in Havertown, PA, serving homeowners across the Philadelphia Main Line since 2014. We handle whole-home renovations, additions, kitchens, bathrooms and exterior work, taking each project from first sketch through final walkthrough under one roof.
Our in-house design team works out of a 3,500 sq ft design studio in Havertown, where clients see, touch and select the finishes for their homes. Design and construction sit side by side, so what we draw is what we build.
The Role
We are hiring a full-time Remodeling Designer to lead the design of kitchens, bathrooms, additions and whole-home renovations. You will capture existing conditions with RENDR, design in Cyncly 2020 Design, and keep each project's scope and selections organized in JobTread.
This role sits between the client and construction. You will guide homeowners from the first meeting through finish selections in our design studio, and work closely with sales, estimating and project managers so that what gets designed can be built on budget and without surprises in the field.
Responsibilities
- Meet with homeowners in their homes and in our Havertown design studio to understand goals, style and budget.
- Scan and measure existing spaces with RENDR to produce accurate floor plans.
- Develop layouts, floor plans, elevations and 3D renderings in Cyncly 2020 Design.
- Design kitchens, bathrooms, additions and whole-home renovations that are practical to build.
- Lead clients through cabinetry, tile, countertop, plumbing fixture and lighting selections in the studio.
- Present designs clearly and help clients move confidently to contract.
- Work with estimating to define scope and keep designs within budget.
- Build and maintain project selections, specifications and documents in JobTread.
- Hand off complete, clear design packages to project managers and the field.
- Coordinate with engineers or architects when a project needs structural or permit drawings.
- Visit job sites during construction to answer questions and document design changes and change orders.
Qualifications
Required
- 3+ years designing residential remodels, ideally kitchens, baths or design-build work.
- Proficiency in Cyncly 2020 Design, or strong experience in comparable kitchen and bath design software.
- Experience with RENDR or similar 3D scanning and measuring tools, or a willingness to learn quickly. (Preferred)
- Comfortable working in JobTread or similar construction management software.
- Working knowledge of cabinetry, residential construction methods and materials.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills with homeowners.
- Highly organized, able to run several projects at different stages at once.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation for client and site visits.
Preferred
- Degree in interior design, architecture or a related field.
- NKBA certification (AKBD or CKD).
- Experience designing additions and whole-home renovations.
- Hands-on field or trade experience in residential construction.
- Familiarity with older Main Line housing stock.
What We Offer
- Salary: $50, 000 to $60,000 per year, based on experience.
- Benefits: Health insurance, retirement plan and holidays.
- A 3,500 sq ft design studio built for showing clients finishes in person.
- Design and construction under one roof, so you see your work built and learn from the field.
- A small, collaborative team where your ideas shape how we work.
- Steady pipeline of high-end residential projects across the Main Line.
How to Apply
Apply by submitting your resume and a portfolio of residential remodel designs. Please include two or three remodel projects, ideally with renderings alongside photos of the finished space.
