Reliability & Maintenance Mechanic — Journeyman Level

Role overview

• Location: 4060 Fairview Industrial Dr. SE, Salem, OR 97302
• Pay: $40.23/hour
• Sign-On: $5,000 (See Hiring Manager for details)
• Status: Full-time, hourly; shift will be determined

Core responsibilities

• Install, service, and sustain production machinery and facility equipment to high reliability standards.
• Execute emergency/unscheduled repairs during production and perform planned maintenance during service windows.
• Complete simple machinist work and multi-craft tasks spanning mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
• Use manuals and work orders to guide maintenance and service activities.
• Diagnose failures, repair or replace parts, verify performance through testing, and fine-tune as needed.
• Carry out preventive maintenance across machines, equipment, and plant facilities.
• Perform basic plumbing and carpentry work as needed.
• Operate hand/power tools, electric meters, and material handling equipment safely and effectively.
• Identify and report faulty operations or defective materials to appropriate supervision.
• Maintain compliance with safety regulations and uphold clean, orderly work areas.
• Additional duties may be assigned by management.

Working conditions

• Exposure to common industrial hazards such as noise, fumes, and dirt; PPE required at all times: safety shoes, hearing protection, safety glasses, and face shields.
• No travel is required.
• Expect periods of high demand with multiple priorities and critical deadlines; workload and schedule may vary, with intermittent disruptions.
• Overtime may be necessary, including some weekends, weekdays, and holidays.

Physical demands

• Lift and carry up to 50 lbs on occasion.
• Occasional crouching/waist bending; climb up to 60 vertical steps.
• Frequent walking on uneven ground; frequent arm’s-length reach and occasional overhead reach.
• Twisting and turning at the neck and trunk as tasks require.
• Continuous handling and gripping of tools and parts; continuous verbal and auditory communication.
• Close visual acuity for detailed work; strong mental dexterity to work independently with sustained attention to detail and awareness.

Success profile

• High school diploma or GED, or equivalent experience.
• Technical degree or apprenticeship credential preferred.
• Manufacturing production experience; packaging manufacturing background preferred.
• 2+ years of industrial maintenance experience highly preferred.
• Willing to work the assigned (TBD) shift, plus weekends and overtime as required, sometimes with short notice.
• Documented commitment to safety and quality; strong mechanical aptitude and basic math.
• Computer-friendly; able to enter data accurately. CMMS experience desired.
• Self-motivated, self-directed; reliably follows written procedures and safety expectations.
• Professional attitude with clear, effective communication.
