    Summary:

     

    This position is responsible for processing all medical record releases of information requests in a timely and efficient manner, ensuring accuracy, and providing customers with the highest quality product and customer service. The associate must at all times safeguard and protect the patient’s right to privacy by ensuring that only authorized individuals have access to the patient’s medical information. Associate maintains confidentiality and security by confirming all releases of information comply with the request and/or authorization, departmental policy, and HIPAA regulations. 

    Responsibilities:

     

    Reviews and validates requests for the release of medical information according to established departmental policies and procedures. 

    Scans and enters requests into the appropriate release of the information database application in preparation for processing. 

    Determines records to be released by reviewing requestor information following departmental and HIPAA guidelines. 

    Coordinates and communicates with applicable departments and/or off-site record storage vendors to obtain portions of the medical record that apply to the requested information. 

    Processes approved requests following departmental policies & procedures while ensuring medical privacy and compliance is maintained to guard against unauthorized disclosures. 

    Assists with various related administrative duties such as servicing walk-in customers, and processing incoming faxes, mail, telephone inquiries, and internal requests for information. 

    Performs other related duties as required. 

    Education Skills Experience:

    High School Diploma or equivalent is required

    License, Registration, or Certification Requirements: 

    Certification in Health Information Management (RHIT or RHIA) is preferred, but not required.

    Manual: Some manual skills/motor coord & finger dexterity

    Occupational: Little or no potential for occupational risk

    Physical Effort: Sedentary/light effort. May exert up to 10 lbs. force
