About This Role

The Relationship Banker is a relationship-focused sales professional responsible for building client relationships, identifying financial needs, recommending banking solutions, and supporting branch growth through proactive sales and service activities.

Approximately 75% of this role is dedicated to relationship building, consultative sales, account opening, cross-selling bank products and services, referral generation, client outreach, and achieving individual monthly sales goals. The remaining 25% of the role focuses on assisting clients with routine transactions through the Interactive Teller Machine (ITM), supporting digital banking adoption, and

providing exceptional client service.

This position is expected to actively contribute to branch growth by generating new account opportunities, deepening existing client relationships, increasing product penetration, and partnering with internal business lines. Success in this role requires a strong sales mindset, excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to engage clients in meaningful financial conversations that result in solutions that meet their needs.

In This Role You Will

Relationship Building, Sales, and Business Development (Approximately 75%)

  • Build and maintain strong client relationships through proactive engagement and personalized service.
  • Conduct financial needs-based conversations to identify client goals and recommend appropriate banking solutions.
  • Open and service consumer deposit accounts, including checking, savings, money market, and certificate accounts.
  • Cross-sell consumer banking products and services based on client needs.
  • Generate referrals to mortgage lending, business banking, investments, treasury management, and insurance partners.
  • Conduct outbound calling, lead follow-up, appointment setting, and sales outreach activities.
  • Participate in branch sales campaigns, community events, and client development initiatives.
  • Develop new business opportunities through relationship-building and networking efforts.
  • Meet and exceed assigned monthly sales goals for account openings, referrals, product penetration, and relationship growth.
  • Maintain accurate records of sales activities, referrals, client interactions, and follow-up commitments.
  • Support branch deposit growth and overall production objectives.

Client Engagement and Digital Banking Support (Approximately 25%)

  • Assist clients in completing routine banking transactions through the Interactive Teller Machine (ITM).
  • Educate clients on digital banking tools, mobile banking, online banking, and self-service solutions.
  • Help clients navigate available technology to improve convenience and enhance their banking experience.
  • Resolve routine client service requests and account-related questions.
  • Utilize client interactions as opportunities to identify financial needs and introduce relevant banking solutions.
  • Promote digital adoption and self-service capabilities while maintaining a high level of client satisfaction.

Client Experience and Risk Management

  • Deliver an exceptional client experience during every interaction.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of banking products, services, promotions, and digital solutions.
  • Follow all bank policies, procedures, regulatory requirements, and risk management expectations.
  • Protect client information and ensure compliance with all applicable regulations.
  • Maintain accurate documentation for account openings, referrals, and client interactions.
  • Partner effectively with branch teammates and internal business partners to support overall branch performance.

Client Experience, Risk and Teamwork

  • Deliver a consistent, high-quality client experience during every interaction, whether completing a transaction, resolving a service request, or discussing financial needs.
  • Resolve routine account and service concerns and escalate more complex matters when appropriate.
  • Follow all bank policies, procedures, regulatory requirements, security standards, and risk-management expectations.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation for transactions, account openings, referrals, client interactions, and service requests.
  • Work collaboratively with branch team members to manage client traffic, support branch priorities, and achieve service, operational, and sales goals.

Compliance Requirements

As part of the employment process for this position, you will be required to meet the requirements of a background and credit check.

This position requires compliance with the S.A.F.E. Mortgage Licensing Act of 2008 and all related regulations. Ongoing employment is contingent upon meeting all such requirements, including registration with the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System and Registry, NMLS, after hire.

Qualifications, Competencies and Skills

Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of one year of sales, relationship management, retail banking, financial services, customer service, or business development experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships and identify client needs.
  • Ability to achieve assigned monthly sales goals and production expectations.
  • Strong consultative selling, cross-selling, and business development skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a goal-oriented sales environment.
  • Ability to learn and explain banking products, services, and digital banking solutions.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain NMLS registration after hire.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including Saturdays as needed.

Preferred

  • Previous experience as a Relationship Banker, Personal Banker, Universal Banker, Financial Services Representative, Consumer Banker, or similar retail banking role.
  • Experience opening consumer deposit accounts.
  • Experience generating referrals and meeting sales goals.
  • Experience with retail banking products, consumer lending, and digital banking solutions.
  • Experience working in a performance-driven sales environment.

Compensation Disclosure

The range for this role takes into account many factors that First Bank considers when making hiring decisions, including but not limited to prior experience, skill set, training, and other internal business and organizational factors. First Bank generally does not hire at or near the top of the stated range. The range is driven by the geographic location of the anticipated hiring location; however, the specific range may vary depending on the geographic location for remote positions. Compensation decisions depend on the specific facts and circumstances of each hiring instance.

A reasonable estimate of the current pay range is $17.50 - $21.50 an hour.
