TITLE: Registrar/Community Outreach Coordinator DEPARTMENT: Historical Preservation

CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintains records of accession, condition and location of objects in the tribal collection.
  • Oversees unpacking of acquired objects and packing and shipping of objects to conform to insurance regulations. Oversees handling, packing, movement and inspection of all objects entering or leaving the department.
  • Registers and assigns accession and catalog numbers to all objects in collection according to established registration system.
  • Composes concise description of objects and records descriptions on files cards and in collection catalogs.
  • Maintains records of storage, exhibit and load locations of all objects in collection for use of Historic Preservation personnel, insurance representatives and other persons utilizing facilities.
  • Periodically reviews and evaluates registration and catalog system to maintain applicability, consistency and operation.
  • Prepares acquisition reports for review of administrative staff.
  • Prepares report of condition and number of objects in tribal collection for overall annual report for the Historic Preservation Department.
  • Evacuates and monitors the environmental conditions in which tribal objects are exhibited and stored.
  • Arranges for insurance of objects on load or special exhibition and prepare collection for insurance coverage on entire collection.
  • Submit news articles pertaining to Historic Preservation Department activities in the Tribal newsletter.
  • Maintain Meskwaki Museum Facebook page.
  • Facilitate and develop education programing and outreach for tribal community for maintaining traditional foods, skills, arts, clothing and lost cultural knowledge.
  • Partnership with tribal community, state organizations, tribes, educators, conservation and heritage preservation organizations to create programing that promotes an understanding and appreciation for Meskwaki cultural resources.
  • Create education materials and curriculum for outreach education of tribal programing.
  • Promote the use of the Meskwaki language in tribal community programing.
  • Seek out funding of tribal community outreach programing and overall Historic Preservation activities. Fulfilling requirements related to received grants.
  • Complete purchase orders, requisition forms and related for all departmental supplies and honorariums.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in History or related area and 3 to 5 years of related experience.
  • Prefer experience with Past Perfect system.
  • Knowledge of Meskwaki history, culture, traditions, demographics and politics.
  • Knowledge of the proper care, preservation and restoration of tribal objects and artifacts.
  • Knowledge of conservation and restoration techniques of tribal objects and artifacts.-
  • Knowledge of literature, current publications and activities relevant to artifact preservation.
  • Program administration skills to plan and manage a project and creating a work plan.
  • Ability to work effectively with the tribal community.
  • Experience with education settings with lifelong learner of all age groups.
  • Basic understanding of curriculum development.
  • Experience creating education materials.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of investigative research methods.
  • Success in Grant Writing and securing grant funds.
  • Must be able to speak and understand the Meskwaki language.
  • Must be willing to travel.

SUPERVISION:

  • Supervised by the Historical Preservation Director.

SALARY LEVEL:

  • Annual Salary Range: $42,286-$60,632
