The Department of State Hospitals - Napa, Department of Medicine, and Ancillary Services is accepting applications for a Full-time, Limited Term (with possibility of becoming perm) positions to the Registered Nurse (Safety) ECT/Recovery classification. Experience is preferred, but not required. The RN in this department works in a variety of clinic and non-clinic settings in our department.
The RN in this role assists and works with Psychiatrists, Anesthesiologist and Physicians in clinical examinations and Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT). Orders drugs and supplies for ECT/Surgical Clinic. Creates and maintains a sterile and safer environment in the surgical and clinic areas and cares for and maintains surgical instruments, dressings, surgical supplies, and medical equipment. Supervise patients and assists medical staff with pre- and post-operative nursing: reviews charts and consent pre-operatively for ECT/surgery procedures; observes and reports patients' progress pre and post procedures and provides peri-anesthesia treatment information to patients and unit staff. CPAN certification is desired but not required.

Founded in 1875, Napa State Hospital is the only state hospital in Northern California for persons struggling with severe mental illness. Classified as a low to moderate security facility, the hospital has a bed capacity to treat up to 1,362 patients on an attractive campus with treatment units located on 138 acres. Staff is dedicated and committed to delivering high quality, cost-effective, professional services and specialized programs in an environment that promotes continuous improvements in treatment for individuals with mental disabilities.
Effective July 1, 2025, the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) was implemented. PLP 2025 requires that each full-time employee receive a 3 percent reduction in pay in exchange for 5 hours of PLP 2025 leave credits monthly through June 30, 2027. Salaries do not reflect the recent changes.
