Registered Nurse (Rn) - Vascular Access Team/Iv Team

Join UVA Health's specialized Vascular Access Team, providing consultation and procedural support for adult and pediatric patients across a large academic health system. This role is ideal for an experienced RN who values clinical autonomy, advanced skill development, interdisciplinary collaboration, and measurable impact on patient safety.

The full-time schedule consists of three 12-hour shifts each week, with rotating day, evening, and occasional night coverage. Weekend scheduling may include the equivalent of up to every other weekend, or approximately six weekend shifts during a six-week scheduling period. There is no call requirement.

The Role

As a Vascular Access Team RN, you will move throughout UVA Health University Hospital, responding to consults and helping clinical teams determine the most appropriate vascular access strategy for each patient. You will independently assess complex needs, prioritize a changing workload, perform procedures, troubleshoot devices, and serve as a knowledgeable resource to nurses, providers, and interdisciplinary partners.

Your practice will include:

• Performing peripheral IV assessment and insertion, including ultrasound-guided vascular access for adult and pediatric patients with difficult access needs
• Placing Peripherally Inserted Central Catheters and Midline catheters for adult patients
• Accessing and de-accessing implanted ports
• Evaluating patient-specific treatment needs and recommending appropriate vascular access devices
• Troubleshooting vascular access concerns and helping teams reduce delays in treatment
• Providing consultation and education to bedside nurses and interdisciplinary teams on vascular access best practices
• Collaborating with inpatient units, procedural areas, infusion centers, ambulatory clinics, and emergency services
• Supporting evidence-based quality and safety initiatives, including CLABSI and bloodstream infection prevention

This is a highly mobile, hands-on clinical role. Team members travel throughout the hospital, often walking six to seven miles during a shift while maneuvering ultrasound equipment. You will manage competing priorities in a dynamic environment while maintaining the judgment to work independently and the awareness to engage colleagues or leaders when additional support is needed.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education: Graduate of an accredited nursing program required. Bachelor of Science in Nursing required within 5 years of hire.

Experience: 1 year of relevant experience.

Licensure: Licensed to Practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia. American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequently traveling, bending/stooping. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull 20 - 50lbs. May be exposed to chemicals, blood/body fluids and infectious disease.

The pay range for this role is $39.90 - $53.00 hourly. Individual compensation will be determined by the selected candidate's qualifications, previous work experience, and/or education.
