Registered Nurse (RN) – Nurse Lead (Medical ICU) Contract

Facility: Adventist Health Sierra Vista
Location: San Luis Obispo, CA

Duration: 13 Weeks
Schedule: Day Shift | 3x12s | 06:30–19:00
Pay Rate: $58 – $60/hr
Estimated Weekly Pay:$2,088 – $2,160/week
Start: Based on department needs


Job Summary

Serve as a Nurse Lead in the Medical ICU, providing both direct patient care and unit-based leadership. Responsibilities include coordinating staffing, supporting clinical decision-making, ensuring quality care delivery, and assisting the Nurse Manager with daily operations to maintain safety, efficiency, and high patient outcomes.


Requirements

  • Active California RN License

  • Minimum 5 years ICU experience preferred

  • Prior supervisory or leadership experience required

  • Strong critical care skills in a trauma-designated ICU

  • Ability to manage staffing, workflows, and clinical escalation needs


Required Credentials

  • RN License (CA) – Required

  • BLS (AHA) – Required

  • ACLS (AHA) – Required

  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) – Required


Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN)

  • Master’s Degree (preferred)

  • ICU leadership or charge nurse experience

  • Clinical specialty certification


Unit Details

  • Medical ICU (Trauma Level Unit)

  • 162-bed acute care facility

  • Level III NICU onsite

  • Community trauma center designation

  • Cerner EMR (facility-wide)

  • No call requirement


Leadership Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate ICU nursing staff

  • Manage daily staffing assignments and acuity balancing

  • Support performance evaluations and staff coaching

  • Assist with quality improvement and patient safety initiatives

  • Collaborate with physicians, Nurse Manager, and Director

  • Ensure compliance with Joint Commission standards


Schedule Notes

  • Day Shift: 06:30–19:00

  • 3x12-hour shifts per week

  • Schedule based on department needs

  • No call
