Join a high-acuity Cardiac Observation Unit (COU) where you’ll play a critical role in caring for patients before and after cardiac procedures while working alongside an experienced multidisciplinary team.
Position: Registered Nurse (RN) – Cardiac Observation Unit
Location: Arizona
Contract: 13 Weeks
Hours: 36 Hours/Week
Shift: Days
Shift Times: 0600–1830, 0700–1930, or 0800–2030
Start Date:ASAP / July 13, 2026
Call: Rotational, approximately once every 6 weeks; may be as frequent as once every 4 weeks
Weekend Call: Saturday 0700–1700 and Sunday 0700–1400
The Cardiac Observation Unit (COU) provides specialized care for Cath Lab patients before and after procedures. This is a fast-paced environment caring for high-risk, high-acuity cardiac patients.
The team takes pride in delivering exceptional patient care and achieving superb outcomes. Nurses may also assist with bedside procedures including:
Transesophageal Echocardiography (TEE)
Cardioversions (CV)
Post-cardiac catheterization recovery
Conscious sedation recovery
Admit and assess patients entering the Cardiac Observation Unit.
Prepare patients for cardiac catheterization procedures, including chart review, pre-procedure checklists, IV initiation, and access-site preparation.
Prepare patients for cardioversions and TEE procedures.
Recover patients following cardiac catheterization procedures involving conscious sedation.
Assist with bedside procedures by sedating, circulating, and documenting care for CV and TEE procedures.
Administer medications and perform nursing interventions within RN scope of practice.
Monitor patients closely and recognize changes in condition promptly.
Assist physicians during examinations and procedures.
Provide comprehensive discharge education and instructions.
Complete accurate nursing documentation and ensure safe physical discharge.
Collaborate with physicians and the multidisciplinary cardiac care team to promote excellent patient outcomes.
Active Arizona RN license or Compact RN license
BLS certification
ACLS certification
Strong clinical assessment and critical-thinking skills
Ability to work effectively in a high-acuity cardiac environment
Flexibility to participate in the required rotational call schedule
