Registered Nurse (RN) Job Description

Position Title: Registered Nurse (RN)

Schedule: Part Time
Department: Nursing
Reports To: Director of Nursing (DON) / Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON)
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt (Hourly)

Position Summary

The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing professional nursing care to residents in accordance with physician orders, individualized care plans, federal and state regulations, and facility policies. The RN supervises nursing staff, coordinates resident care, promotes quality outcomes, and ensures the highest standards of compassionate, resident-centered care within the skilled nursing facility.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide direct nursing care to residents in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act and facility policies.
• Assess residents upon admission and perform ongoing assessments to identify changes in condition.
• Develop, implement, and update individualized nursing care plans.
• Administer medications, IV therapies, injections, treatments, and blood products as ordered.
• Perform wound care, tube feedings, catheter care, tracheostomy care, and other skilled nursing procedures.
• Monitor laboratory results, diagnostic testing, and physician orders.
• Notify physicians and families of significant changes in resident condition.
• Document assessments, interventions, treatments, and resident responses accurately in the electronic medical record.
• Supervise Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs), Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs), Certified Medication Technicians (CMTs), and other assigned staff.
• Delegate nursing responsibilities appropriately while maintaining accountability for resident care.
• Ensure medications are stored, administered, and documented according to regulations.
• Respond promptly to resident emergencies and initiate appropriate interventions.
• Complete admissions, transfers, discharges, and readmissions.
• Participate in interdisciplinary care plan meetings.
• Monitor infection prevention and control practices.
• Promote resident rights, dignity, privacy, and independence.
• Ensure compliance with OSHA, CMS, HIPAA, and Missouri Department of Health regulations.
• Participate in Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) activities.
• Assist during state surveys and regulatory inspections.
• Maintain accurate narcotic counts and medication inventory.
• Serve as a clinical resource and mentor for nursing staff.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Missouri.
• Current CPR/BLS certification required.
• Long-term care or skilled nursing experience preferred.
• Strong assessment and critical thinking skills.
• Excellent communication and leadership abilities.
• Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
• Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, and long-term care regulations preferred.
• Experience with electronic medical records (EMR) preferred.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to respond quickly during emergencies.
