During summer school, ensures that the health needs of identified students are met. May provide extra services for students with Individual Education Plans (IEP). Monitors and evaluates service delivery by the other health care staff. Ensures adequate communication is provided to others participating in the care of the students.
1. During summer school, identifies necessary assessments, evaluations, educational planning, the availability of health services and resources to address the needs for the child with special health care needs.
2. Conducts comprehensive health assessments of the child in relation to the school setting.
3. Provides direct health care services to the student with special needs when needed. Provides case management to students with complex health needs. May perform nursing services for students with IEPs.
4. Provides home visits as needed. Provides nursing services on buses as needed.
5. Facilitates the transition of the student with special needs from home to school.
6. Provides nursing services to treat injuries and diseases for all students and staff.
7. Monitors and evaluates service delivery by the other health care staff.
8. Ensures adequate communication is provided to others participating in the care of the students.
9. Consults with LPNs on the Individualized Health care plan as needed.
10. Communicates with physicians, community agencies, school staff and parents/guardians according to guidelines from the District.
11. Knowledge of and strict adherence to Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) and Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA).
12. Strictly applies and supports policies and procedures of the District. Strictly adheres to state and federal guidelines.
13. Travels to multiple school locations.
14. Performs other related duties as assigned or directed.
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Degree plus a minimum of two (2) years of directly related clinical experience. Experience in pediatrics or school nursing services preferred. Current license to practice as a professional nurse in the State of Tennessee required. Certification in First Aid, Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automatic External Defibrillator(AED), some ventilator knowledge, and a Tennessee driver's license required. Master’s degree in Nursing preferred.
The following special conditions are required: Commitment for the entire period of summer school. May involve missing some district training opportunities.
