  • Position Type: Contract
  • Contract Duration: 3 months
  • Pay Rate: $55.00 / Hour (USD)
  • Shift / Schedule: Nights, 3 12 Hours (18:45 07:15); 36 hours per week only

Job Summary

This is a PCU (Progressive Care Unit) travel nursing contract position at a healthcare facility in Wilmington, NC. The unit specializes in cardiac and vascular patient populations, including post-surgical, post-procedure, and complex cardiac diagnoses. Contract staff will be assigned and expected to work a Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team, may be required to report to work during a catastrophic event, mass casualty, or disaster, and consolidation to the Centralized Office mid-contract may occur with contract staff potentially preassigned to units as needed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver nursing care to patients with diagnoses including Atrial Fibrillation, CHF, CAD, Aortic stenosis/regurgitation, Mitral Regurgitation/Stenosis, Endocarditis, Cardiomyopathy, PVD/PAD, Vasculitis, Carotid stenosis, Venous stasis, sheath management, and sheath removal
  • Support and assist with special procedures including CABG, AVR, MVR, TAVR, Mitral Clip, LAAO (Watchman procedure), VATS, Carotid endarterectomy, FEM-POP bypass, Amputations, other vascular surgeries, cardiac surgeries, thoracic surgeries, general thoracic surgery, Post cath, Post DCCV, Post electrophysiology procedures, and Pacemaker placements
  • Operate and manage special equipment including Arterial lines (not required), Doppler, Bladder scanner, EKG, Femoral sheaths, TR band, Fem-stop, Chest tubes, and Epicardial Pacing Wires
  • Utilize unit systems for medication, documentation, and communication: Pyxis, EPIC, and SBAR
  • Adhere to patient ratios: varies per acuity 1:4 for surgical step down; 1:5 6 for lower acuity
  • Follow unit float rotation; will not be first to float
  • Meet weekend requirement of 4 weekends per 4 weeks (flexible)
  • Report to work during storm, hurricane, mass casualty, or disaster events as assigned

Education Requirements

  • BLS & ACLS certification required
  • NIHSS certification required
  • Must pass EKG Testing prior to start for this specialty

Required Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of experience on the cardiac floor required
  • Traveler experience required UNLESS traveler has more than 24 months of cardiac experience

Work Environment / Physical Requirements

  • Night shift only: 3 12-hour shifts (18:45 07:15), 36 hours per week
  • Weekend requirement: 4 per 4 weeks (flexible)
  • Float requirement: Will follow unit rotation not first to float
  • Flu vaccination required (medical/religious exemptions only)
  • Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team assignment required; may be required to report during catastrophic events, mass casualty, or disaster
  • Mid-contract consolidation to Centralized Office may occur; may be preassigned to units as needed
  • Scrubs: Navy
  • Unit orientation: 24 hours
  • Locals accepted

Important Notes

  • RTO after booking is not allowed and is not allowed to be worked out onsite. Any call offs or additional RTO on unit could possibly result in a cancel and DNR.
  • Must pass EKG Testing prior to start required for this specialty.
  • Every candidate will be interviewed. Please provide interview availability for the next 72 hours at the time of submission. Manager will not offer without speaking to the candidate first.
