Contract Details

  • Position Type: Contract (Travel Nursing)
  • Contract Duration: 3 months (through 2/27 end date)
  • Pay Rate: $45.00 / Hour (USD)
  • Shift / Schedule: Night Shift, 3 12 Hours (18:45 7:15); 36 or 48 hours per week available

Job Summary

This is a Medical-Surgical/Telemetry travel nursing position on a fast-paced orthopedic and neuro spine unit. The unit carries an average daily census of 37 patients across 39 beds, serving an orthopedic, neuro spine, med-surg, and post-surgical patient population. Nurses on this unit are expected to stay on top of pain management for ortho and spine patients in a high-acuity environment. The unit is willing to offer block scheduling (F/S/S or S/S/M) for this position.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care to orthopedic, neuro spine, med-surg, and post-surgical patients on a fast-paced unit with an average daily census of 37
  • Manage pain management protocols for orthopedic and spine patients proactively
  • Maintain nurse-to-patient ratios of 5 6:1 (may flex up to 7:1 in extreme cases only)
  • Float to any other med-surg unit within the facility to meet staffing needs based on census as required
  • Work every other weekend; if an RN calls out on a weekend, they are required to make that time up on a weekend
  • Care for COVID patients on unit as needed (COVID patients are no longer cohorted to a specific unit; all COVID patients, unless they end up in ICU, are cared for on all units wherever they are when confirmed)
  • Adhere to block scheduling options (F/S/S or S/S/M) as offered by the unit

Required Skills

  • IV Start proficiency
  • Telemetry monitoring
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
  • Orthopedic nursing experience required (MUST HAVE)
  • EPIC experience required (unit will accept first-time travelers WITH Epic experience)
  • Ability to manage high nurse-to-patient ratios (5 6:1, with potential flex to 7:1)
  • Ability to float to any other med-surg unit within the facility as needed

Preferred Skills

  • ACLS certification
  • Charge Nurse experience
  • Level I Trauma experience

Education Requirements

  • BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support) certification required
  • NIH Stroke Scale certification required
  • Must pass EKG Testing prior to start for this specialty
  • Flu vaccination required (medical/religious exemptions only)

Required Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
  • Orthopedic nursing experience required
  • Unit will accept first-time travelers with EPIC experience

Work Environment / Physical Requirements

  • Fast-paced unit environment
  • Night shift: 12-hour shifts (18:45 7:15), 3 12 schedule; 36 or 48 hours per week available
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio: 5 6:1 (may flex up to 7:1 in extreme cases only)
  • Float requirement: Travelers may be required to float to any other med-surg unit within the facility based on census and staffing needs
  • Every other weekend is required; call-outs on weekends must be made up on a weekend
  • Block scheduling available: F/S/S or S/S/M schedule
  • Holiday RTO cannot be approved
  • Maximum 7 days RTO for AYA Auto Offer
  • RTO after booking is not allowed and is not allowed to be worked out onsite; any call-offs or additional RTO on unit could result in contract cancellation and DNR

  • EKG Testing: Must pass EKG Testing prior to start for this specialty.
  • Holiday RTO: Cannot be approved under any circumstances.
  • RTO Cap: Maximum 7 days RTO for AYA Auto Offer.
  • Flu Vaccination: Required; medical/religious exemptions only.
