  • Position Type: Contract (Travel Nursing)
  • Contract Duration: 5 months
  • Pay Rate: $55.00 / Hour (USD)
  • Shift / Schedule: Nights, 18:45 07:15 (4 12); 36 or 48-hour shifts accepted

Job Summary

This is a Medical-Surgical/Telemetry travel nursing position at Novant Health Scotts Hill Medical Center in Wilmington, NC. The unit operates with a 1:6 nurse-to-patient ratio and accepts first-time travelers as well as local candidates. Self-scheduling is in place, and the facility uses Pyxis for medication management. Contract staff will be assigned and expected to work a Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team and may be required to report to work during a catastrophic event, mass casualty, or disaster. Consolidation to a Centralized Office mid-contract may occur, and contract staff may be preassigned to units as needed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide care for patients with diagnoses including, but not limited to: diabetes, dementia, COVID, pneumonia, COPD, sepsis, encephalopathy, GI bleed, anemia, hip fracture, CHF, UTI, various surgical recovery cases, renal failure, hypertension, cellulitis, and failure to thrive
  • Interpret and manage dysrhythmias and monitor patients via telemetry remote monitoring
  • Utilize Rapid Response/Code teams as clinically indicated
  • Manage bowel obstruction, colostomy/ileostomy care, and feeding tube care and management
  • Provide pre/post hemodialysis management and care for patients in renal failure
  • Administer blood products and perform central line blood draws
  • Manage peripheral lines, PICC lines, and start and maintain IVs
  • Administer heparin, insulin, and patient-controlled analgesia (PCA)
  • Manage chest tubes (Emerson/PleurEvac) and BiPAP/CPAP devices
  • Manage and maintain High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC), nasal cannula, and other non-invasive airway management modalities
  • Perform oral suctioning and administer oxygen via nasal cannula and oxygen tanks
  • Implement isolation precautions and proper PPE protocols
  • Perform wound care and wound vac management
  • Perform phlebotomy as required
  • Float to main campus (NHRMC, approximately 32 minutes away) as required
  • Work every other weekend as required
  • Work holidays as required; no block schedules unless a weekend block
  • Participate in Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team assignments as directed

Work Environment / Physical Requirements

  • Night shift position: 18:45 07:15 (4 12-hour shifts); 36 or 48-hour shifts accepted
  • Patient ratio: 1:6
  • Weekend requirement: Every other weekend
  • Call requirement: None
  • Float requirement: Yes traveler may be required to float to main campus (NHRMC), approximately 32 minutes away
  • RTO (Requested Time Off): 7 days MAX per contract
  • Scheduling type: Self-scheduling
  • Unit orientation: 24 hours
  • Scrubs: Navy blue or white
  • Flu vaccination required (medical/religious exemptions only)
