Summary

The registered nurse is responsible for the delivery of safe, effective, and quality patient centered care, under the direction of the department manager, supervisor, and charge nurse. Proficiency in administering the fundamentals of the nursing process, assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Current and unencumbered licensure or Interim Permit as a Registered Nurse (RN) through the Nevada State Board of Nursing
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) for healthcare providers
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) for healthcare providers within six (6) months of hire or position entry
  • Must successfully complete National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification within 180 days of hire or position entry
  • Must successfully complete Non-Violent Crisis intervention within six (6) months of hire or position entry

Preferred:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing
  • A minimum of one-year Acute Care experience
  • CMS-RN, OCN, PCCN, ONS chemotherapy

Primary departments to float to:

  • Medical/Oncology
  • Surgical/Orthopedics
  • Sierra Postop
  • Telemetry
  • Clinical Decision Unit (CDU)
  • Behavioral Health Inpatient

Additional departments expected to float to:

  • Emergency Dept. (to care for pts holding for admit or to PRN tasks)
  • ICU (to care for Tele or Floor Care status pts)

With additional training:

  • Pediatrics (for adult care or to care for Pediatrics with additional training)
  • Labor & Delivery (with additional training)

Essential Functions

  • Has knowledge of and adheres to Carson Tahoe Health's policies, procedures, and unit standards of care.
  • Attends 75% of scheduled staff meetings/unit conferences. Attends/completes 100% of all required Unit and Hospital education and Employee Health annual requirements by the established deadlines.
  • Maintains required license and certification requirements on provided platform.
  • Maintains competencies to reflect current skill level.
  • Self identifies and seeks guidance when encountering nursing procedures and responsibilities that have not been mastered. Seeks out and communicates need for additional learning experiences.
  • Appropriately identifies changes in patients presentation and communicates changes to the care team.
  • Adheres to performing/receiving bedside handover as per organizational standards.
  • Accepts accountability for clinical care of assigned patients, including supervision of non-professional personnel.
  • Identifies patient teaching needs and provides elementary instructions for the patient and his or her family.
  • Develops, reviews, modifies, and implements comprehensive plan of care.
  • Responds appropriately in urgent and/or emergency situations.
  • Identifies abnormal diagnostic data and shows a fundamental understanding of its implications by reporting information to the physician and others caring for the patient, and by incorporating information in the nursing care plan.
  • Uses assessment information to develop a care plan that communicates enough information for incoming personnel to adequately care for the patient.
  • Includes the patient and their family in planning care, establishing priorities, and setting goals.
  • Consistently follows established standards, policies and procedures in providing nursing care.
  • Notes discharge planning elements and incorporates these in care plans.
  • Responds appropriately in urgent and/or emergency situations.
  • Evaluates and notes the individual patient's response to nursing care defined in the nursing care plan and medical records.
  • Appropriately delegates and supervises care scheduled by non-professional personnel, providing instruction as needed.
  • Assists in the teaching or preceptor role for student nurses and other allied health professionals
  • Demonstrates proficiency as defined in the position/group/department checklists and unit specific competency standards.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
