Emergency Department (ED) is a 74- bed department within York Hospital, a Level 1 Trauma Center, Comprehensive Stroke Center and Chest Pain Accredited Center of Excellence. In addition to the 74 treatment spaces, we have a 3-bed trauma bay and secure unit for behavioral health patients.
The ETCU is a 22-bed expansion of the Emergency Department. All beds have telemetry capability. Two rooms are Negative Pressure Rooms. The entire unit can be placed under negative pressure if necessary. The purpose of the ETCU is a staging area for patients who have been evaluated in the main ED and are in the process of lengthy testing, awaiting a consultation, and/or are awaiting an inpatient bed (hold).?The ETCU is NOT an Express Admission Unit nor is it intended to be a holding unit.
Patients are candidates for placement in the ETCU after their initial nursing interventions and procedures have been started in the main ED, and will continue in the ETCU until disposition is made. Med surg nurses will provide inpatient level care to inpatient holds in ETCU. Med/surg nurses will also be cross trained to fill specific tasks in the Emergency Department as needed.
ADDITIONAL INFO: Could care for COVID patients.
