    Job Summary and Qualifications

    General Statement of Duties:

    Will collaborate with other healthcare providers, both internally and externally, in overseeing an ongoing comprehensive plan of care for a complex patient or groups of patients. Must anticipate consequences of altered physiologic homeostasis, utilizes advanced skills to initiate early interventions and participates in identifying, planning/implementing changes to improve service operations and patient care outcomes. Must possess the critical care experience and specialized training to function independently and interdependently in organizing and directing a critical care patient interfacility transport (via ambulance, rotor wing aircraft, or fixed wing aircraft) and in providing direct patient care to a critical care patient with complex care needs.

    Essential Job Functions:

    1. Utilizes in-depth assessment skills to perform comprehensive patient assessments. Assesses predictable and potential needs of patients in complex situations.

    2. Interprets client health status data to formulate a nursing diagnosis. Provides care for complex patients, correlates clinical data with diagnosis and symptoms in order to initiate appropriate therapy. Ensures that nursing diagnoses are congruent and collaborative with medical diagnoses.

    3. Identifies expected outcomes individualized to the patient. Makes independent nursing judgments recognizing need to change plan of care based on patient outcome.

    4. Prioritizes patient's actual and potential needs. Forms plan of care in collaboration with the patient, significant others, and health care team members. Adjusts the plan of care according to the continual assessment of the patient.

    5. Anticipates impending crisis and initiates early intervention to prevent problems or complications. Performs advanced skills specific to care of the critically ill/injured patient, both in a hospital setting and in the transport environment.

    6. Evaluates and modifies the nursing plan of care based on observable responses to interventions and attainment of patient outcomes. Ensures the evaluation is systematic and on-going.

    Additional Job Functions:

    1. Directs or delegates care based on the needs of the patient and the knowledge and skill of the provider(s).

    2. Formulates and evaluates standards of nursing care, policies and competencies.

    3. Systematically and continuously evaluates the quality, appropriateness, and effectiveness of patient care and nursing practice in the critical care transport environment.

    4. Practices safety measures through applied knowledge of: i. General aviation safety procedures ii. iii. iv. Federal Aviation Agency (FAA) rules and regulations pertaining to safety Emergency aircraft/ambulance equipment and procedure Safe use of patient care procedures and equipment used in the transport environment

    5. Learns and complies with System and facility safety policies and rules; uses appropriate safety equipment and procedures at all times; must immediately report all unsafe conditions to supervisors; must be familiar with all safety features of equipment, tools or materials encompassed by job duties; and must check with supervisors (prior to job performance) if there is a question as to the safe procedure to be used for any job function.

    6. Supports the mission and vision of the Methodist Healthcare System and demonstrates excellent customer service at all times.

    7. Understands and is committed to helping the Methodist Healthcare System and its associated facilities achieve its goals.

    8. Must learn and comply with System and facility safety policies and rules; must use appropriate safety equipment and procedures at all times; must immediately report all unsafe conditions to supervisors; must be familiar with all safety features of equipment, tools or materials encompassed by job duties; and must check with supervisors (prior to job performance) if there is a question as to the safe procedure to be used for any job function.

    9. Adheres to the MHS Code of Conduct and demonstrates ethical behavior as expected by our patients, colleagues and the community. Understands the personal obligation to report any activity that appears to violate applicable laws, rules regulations or the Code of Conduct itself.

    10. Completes other duties as assigned.

    Expert knowledge of the basic principles, theories, and methods of patient care, both in a hospital and in a interfacility transport environment. Ability to delegate appropriately to differing levels of skilled individuals. Can constantly reassess and reset priorities.

    Having the knowledge and skills to secure relevant patient care data and identify key patient issues; understanding relationships between assessment, interventions, and patient responses; skilled in documentation assessments and adjusting physical and cognitive prescriptions as needed.

    1. Adaptability

    Maintaining effectiveness when experiencing major changes in work tasks or the work environment; adjusting effectively to work within new work structures, processes, requirements, or cultures.

    1. Safety Intervention

    Having knowledge of conditions that affect patient, self, and/or employee safety under normal conditions and conditions that occur in crisis situations. Skilled in identifying conditions that might cause health or safety hazards and takes action to remove such hazards. Understands all aspects of providing a safe environment for patient, self, and/or others in crisis.

    Completes competencies as defined by department/unit and/or clinical specialty area

    What qualifications you will need:

    • Advanced Cardiac Life Spt

    • Basic Cardiac Life Support

    • (RN) Registered Nurse

    • Associate Degree, or Bachelors Degree, or Registered Nurse

    • NRP required

    • PALS, STABLE within 6 months of becoming a Transport Nurse.

    • Occasional/ Intermittent Required

    • 2 years RN experience Required
