Beacon Nurses: Heartbeat of Our Health System

Beacon nurses are the heartbeat of our health system. We are excited to announce new pay options that value our acute care bedside nurses. Both full-time and part-time 24 hours per week registered nurses are eligible for premium pay. We are offering wages at $36.00 an hour, $73440 annually, with a signed 3-year agreement and completed department orientation. Your hourly rate will depend on the year of licensure and shift. Please see the details below.

During your interview, we will provide you with your rate of pay for each option. Upon completion of department orientation, starting at $36 an hour with a 3-year agreement to work at Beacon Health System as an RN on days, and $43 an hour with a 3-year agreement to work at Beacon Health System as an RN on nights. If you choose not to opt into an agreement, Beacon Health System offers a competitive hourly rate.

JOB SPECIFICATION

Education and Experience

The knowledge, skills, and abilities as indicated below are acquired through successful completion of an accredited nursing program and in obtaining state licensure to practice as an RN. Candidates hired after January 1, 2014, must have or obtain a BSN within five years of employment as a Registered Nurse or will have the option to become certified in their area of specialty. The certification must be maintained based on accrediting body standards.

Temporary RN Pay

$75.00 per hour for 12 weeks

Reports to Director. Applies the nursing process utilizing Relationship-Based Care framework. Establishes strong patient and family relationships. Collaborates with other professional clinical and ancillary staff in providing quality care to patients. Displays strong teamwork. Exhibits self-care and self-knowing in order to be empathetic and compassionate with every interaction.

Implement strategies to provide for patient and family participation in health promotion, maintenance, and restoration. Utilizes critical thinking skills and employs the use of the teach-back method. Keeps patients and families informed and answers call lights promptly. Initiate nursing actions to assist the patient to maximize their health capabilities. Provide nursing care without discrimination on the basis of diagnosis, age, sex, race, creed, or color.

Resource Driven Practice

Seek education resources and create learning experiences to enhance and maintain current knowledge and skills for their continuing competence in nursing practice and individual growth. Including continuing education council and committee participation and process improvement activities. Seek education and supervision as necessary when implementing nursing practice techniques. Has regular and prompt attendance.

Outcomes

Evaluate with the patient the status of goal achievement as a basis for reassessment, reordering priorities, new goal setting, and revision of the plan of care. Conduct purposeful rounding to assess, evaluate, and anticipate needs. Participates in the review and evaluation of the quality and effectiveness of nursing care. Conducts chart, blood restraint, and other audits as requested. Receives patient feedback via call backs, leader rounds, or surveys. Documentation is thorough and follows core measure guidelines. Completes other job-related duties and projects as assigned.

Education and Experience

The knowledge, skills, and abilities as indicated below are normally acquired through the successful completion of a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree and a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in Indiana.

Knowledge & Skills

Demonstrates a high level of knowledge and competency in interdisciplinary planning as well as performing nursing care procedures, assessments, treatment, and techniques. Requires strong analytical and organizational skills necessary to assess, develop, and implement individualized plans of patient care, education in changing patient situations with recognition of actual and potential problems, patient, family involvement, and the collection of data related to unit nursing care concerns.

Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills necessary to establish and maintain positive therapeutic relationships with patients and families and effective working relationships with staff, physicians, and others. Requires leadership skills in order to provide constructive feedback to peers regarding nursing issues and participate in unit and hospital-wide based decision-making, be adaptable, flexible, and support changes made.

Demonstrates ability to communicate both verbally and in writing in a clear and concise manner. Requires general working knowledge of the normal growth, development, related behaviors, needs, comfort, and range of treatment appropriate to the age, including neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric, and diagnosis of patient served to support the provision of an individualized interdisciplinary plan of care.

Requires an understanding of the need to be responsive and reasonably adaptable for scheduling purposes when necessary due to extenuating circumstances in support of co-workers and department functions. Requires the ability to work independently, take initiative, and be self-motivated.

Basic computer knowledge and skills.

Works in a patient care environment requiring physical exertion, frequent changes in job demands, and certain undesirable patient care activities. May be exposed to biohazards and blood-borne pathogens. Must report to hospital within 30 minutes when on call.

Physical Demands

Requires the physical ability and stamina, i.e., to walk, stand for prolonged periods of time, push carts, wheelchairs up to 50 pounds to position, lift patients at a maximum of 35 pounds unassisted, over 35 pounds requires assistance, provide CPR, etc., to perform the essential functions of the position.
