Registered Nurse - Electrophysiology (Full-Time 4 10Hr Shifts)

Position Summary

The Electrophysiology Registered Nurse reports to the Assistant Director, Cardiac Cath Lab. This position is responsible for providing professional nursing care, patient assessment, clinical monitoring, and procedural support for patients undergoing diagnostic and therapeutic electrophysiology procedures within the cardiac cath lab. The RN collaborates with electrophysiologists, cardiologists, anesthesia providers, technologists, device representatives, and other members of the care team to support electrophysiology studies, cardiac ablations, cardioversions, pacemaker and implantable cardioverter-defibrillator procedures, and other rhythm management interventions. This role is accountable for safe nursing practice, patient education, medication administration within scope, documentation, emergency response, and high-quality care for patients with cardiac rhythm disorders.

Essential Position Responsibilities

• Provide professional nursing care for patients undergoing diagnostic and therapeutic electrophysiology procedures, including pre-procedure assessment, intra-procedure monitoring, and post-procedure recovery support.
• Assess patient status, review relevant clinical information, verify procedure readiness, and communicate pertinent findings to the physician and care team.
• Circulate and provide nursing support during electrophysiology studies, cardiac ablations, cardioversions, pacemaker and implantable cardioverter-defibrillator procedures, and other EP-related procedures.
• Administer medications, monitor patient response, and support moderate sedation or anesthesia-assisted care in accordance with hospital policy, provider orders, and nursing scope of practice.
• Monitor cardiac rhythms, vital signs, hemodynamic data, level of consciousness, airway status, pain level, and overall patient condition throughout the procedural episode.
• Recognize arrhythmias, changes in patient condition, procedural complications, or emergency situations and initiate appropriate nursing interventions while promptly communicating with the physician and care team.
• Support sterile technique, patient positioning, vascular access site care, specimen handling, procedure room turnover, and patient transport as needed to maintain safe and efficient patient flow.
• Provide patient and family education related to the procedure, plan of care, post-procedure restrictions, medication instructions, device precautions, and follow-up expectations.
• Complete accurate and timely nursing documentation, including assessments, medication administration, sedation monitoring, patient response, education, handoff communication, and procedure-related care.
• Maintain required nursing competencies, radiation safety practices, infection prevention standards, emergency response readiness, and department policies related to electrophysiology and cardiac cath lab operations.
• Collaborate professionally with electrophysiologists, cardiologists, technologists, anesthesia providers, device representatives, patients, families, and other members of the interdisciplinary care team.
• Participate in on-call coverage according to the established department call schedule, as assigned.

Qualifications

• Education: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing, required. Bachelor of Science in Nursing, preferred.
• Licensure and Certifications: Current Registered Nurse license in the State of Arkansas or compact state licensure, required. BLS required. ACLS required within 3 months of hire. Moderate sedation competency required within department-established timeframe, if applicable. RCES, RCIS, or cardiac specialty certification preferred.
• Experience: Previous nursing experience in an electrophysiology lab, cardiac cath lab, cardiovascular procedural area, critical care, emergency department, or other acute care setting, preferred. Experience with cardiac rhythm interpretation, procedural sedation, hemodynamic monitoring, ablations, and cardiac device procedures, preferred.

Work Environment: This position will spend 90% of the time walking and/or standing while pushing, pulling, lifting, and/or carrying up to 50 lbs. This position will spend 10% of the time sitting while performing work in a standard office environment. This position will be exposed to communicable diseases, bodily fluids, and radiation.
