  • Position Type: Contract
  • Contract Duration: 2 months
  • Pay Rate: $77.00 / Hour (USD)
  • Shift / Schedule: Night shift, 1900 0730 (3 12 Hours); weekend coverage every other weekend (may change based on need)

Job Summary

This is an 8-week travel contract role for a Registered Nurse/ECMO Specialist supporting critical care units at an acute care hospital in Greenville, SC. Travelers will work alongside the ICU RN and RT, specifically responsible for device management in the ICU, following the ECMO order set and provider team direction. Travelers will work both in the PICU with pediatric patients and in the CVICU with adults who require critical extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (heart/lung) support post cardiac, respiratory, sepsis, shock, or trauma-related injury/illness. Float will be required between the CVICU and PICU units.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage ECMO device during bedside ECMO cannulation and/or cannula repositioning procedures
  • Provide device management in the ICU following the ECMO order set and provider team direction
  • Care for patients with diagnoses including post cardiac surgery, cardiogenic shock, traumatic injury, ARDS/respiratory failure, and/or other critical acute illness-related needs requiring ECMO support
  • Float between the CVICU and PICU units as required
  • Work with both pediatric patients in the PICU and adult patients in the CVICU
  • Operate specialized ECMO and critical care equipment including the Cardiohelp ECMO console, Centrimag ECMO console, Cardio Quip heater-cooler unit, and Glucometer (point of care testing)

Required Skills

  • Both pediatric (PEDs) and adult critical care experience required
  • ECMO Specialist experience required
  • Minimum one year of Epic (electronic health record) experience
  • ECMO specialty device course completed
  • Required continuing medical education (CMEs) to maintain ECMO proficiency
  • Ability to float between CVICU and PICU units

Education Requirements

  • SC RN License required
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) required
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) required
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) required

Required Experience

  • Pediatric and adult ICU experience required
  • ECMO Specialist experience required
  • At least 1 year of Epic experience required
  • ECMO specialty device course and required CMEs to maintain proficiency

Work Environment / Physical Requirements

  • Rotating night shifts: 1900 0730, 3 12-hour shifts
  • Weekend coverage every other weekend; schedule may change based on need
  • Float required between CVICU and PICU units
  • High-acuity critical care environment involving post cardiac surgery, cardiogenic shock, traumatic injury, ARDS/respiratory failure, and other critical acute illness patients requiring ECMO support
  • Flu vaccine required; no exemptions
