    Qualifications

    Education and Experience: Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse and experience equivalent to three years of registered nursing.

    OR

    Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse and education equivalent to a diploma in registered nursing from an accredited school of nursing or bachelor's degree in nursing from an accredited college or university, and experience equivalent to two years of registered nursing.

    OR

    Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse, education equivalent to a graduate degree in nursing from an accredited college or university, and experience equivalent to one year of registered nursing.

    Necessary Special Qualifications: Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Tennessee or holds a privilege to practice in the State of Tennessee under the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC). A valid motor vehicle operator license may be required.

    Overview

    The Nurse Informatics position provides clinical and technical support for the effective use, optimization, and ongoing development of the electronic health record and related healthcare technology systems. This position serves as a liaison between nursing leadership, frontline clinical staff, information technology, electronic health record vendors, and other stakeholders to support safe, efficient, and compliant patient care delivery.

    The Nurse Informatics role assists with system build, workflow design, clinical documentation standards, staff training, data validation, report development, quality improvement activities, and troubleshooting of electronic health record issues. The position supports correctional healthcare operations by promoting accurate documentation, medication safety, continuity of care, regulatory compliance, and effective communication between healthcare and custody partners.

    Responsibilities

    • Serve as a clinical liaison between nursing staff, healthcare leadership, IT staff, EHR vendors, and other system partners.
    • Support implementation, optimization, and maintenance of the electronic health record and related clinical systems.
    • Assist in developing, testing, and validating nursing documentation templates, clinical workflows, forms, reports, and decision-support tools.
    • Provide clinical input to ensure electronic workflows align with policy, nursing scope of practice, patient safety standards, and correctional healthcare operational needs.
    • Support role-based training for nursing and other health services staff on EHR functionality, documentation expectations, and workflow changes.
    • Provide at-the-elbow support during implementation, go-live, upgrades, and system changes.
    • Monitor EHR use, documentation quality, adoption trends, and user feedback to identify training needs and workflow improvements.
    • Assist with troubleshooting clinical system issues and escalate concerns appropriately to IT, vendor staff, or leadership.
    • Support medication administration documentation, treatment documentation, sick call workflows, chronic care documentation, intake/release processes, and other nursing-related workflows.
    • Collaborate with quality improvement, infection prevention, case management, medical, behavioral health, and nursing leadership to support accurate data capture and reporting.
    • Participate in policy and procedure review to ensure alignment between clinical operations and electronic documentation processes.
    • Assist with development of audit tools, dashboards, reports, and data extracts to support compliance, patient safety, and operational oversight.
    • Promote consistent documentation practices across facilities.
    • Maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA, correctional healthcare standards, departmental policies, and applicable state and federal requirements.
    • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce duplication, enhance patient safety, and support staff satisfaction through effective use of technology.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.
