Registered Dietitian

SUMMARY:

The Registered Dietitian is responsible for providing optimal nutritional care to patients, and the standards of care in the dietetic profession. The Registered Dietitian is also responsible for the medical nutrition therapy of patient/residents; nutritional assessment, nutrition care plans, patient visitation, inpatient/outpatient diet counseling, consults regarding advance nutrition support, as well as assist in other areas as appointed by the Chief Medical Officer.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• License to practice as a Dietitian in the State of Texas
• Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Nutrition required
• Board Certification in specialty
• CPR Certification up to date
• 3 years of experience in FQHC setting
• Proficiency in Computer Skills and Electronic Health Records
• Bilingual - English/Spanish is preferred

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Performs nutritional assessments and nutrition screens, which are appropriate and timely per established policies and procedure.
• Develops nutrition care plans and monitors patient response to care plan developed.
• Meets directly with patients to identify educational needs; provides individual instruction, utilize informational handouts/booklets, or refer to community resources as needed.
• Provides inpatient discharge diet instructions.
• Keeps thorough and updated information on patient profile sheets.
• Instructs outpatient, teaches classes and conducts in-services, as required.
• Collaborates with providers to identify and connect with patients in need of nutrition counseling/needs.
• Attends dietitian's meeting and Food Nutritional Services department meetings.
• Collaborates with physician and nursing to deliver quality nutrition care.
• Visits patients with special dietary needs, and documents clinical productivity.
• Provides billing for patient nutritional services.
• Answers telephone and provide copies as required.
• Identifies ways to improve care of patients, and make recommendations to the Chief Medical Director and Quality Assurance/Quality Improvement Committee.
• Participates in various patient program committees; performs research and recommends ways to expand and improve nutrition programs.
• As requested participates in teaching for community education classes or participates in health fairs.
• Performs other job related duties as assigned by the Chief Medical Officer.
